No. 19 Eagles Coast Past UConn 6-0 in Throwbacks
November 08, 2019 | Men's Hockey
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Rookie Alex Newhook collected his first career multi-goal game and classmate Spencer Knight posted a 30-save shutout in a convincing 6-0 Hockey East victory for No. 19 Boston College over UConn on Friday night at Kelley Rink.
BC suited up in special throwback jerseys modeled after those worn by the Eagles during the 1960-61 and 1961-62 seasons.
The Eagles got back to .500 overall (4-4-0) and in the league (2-2-0), while the Huskies dropped their record to 2-4-1 (1-2-0 HEA).
Four players had multi-point efforts in the win, including a career-high three points for senior defenseman Connor Moore (1-2-3). Jack McBain had a goal and an assist, while Graham McPhee handed out a pair of assists.
Knight's shutout was his second in eight starts to begin his NCAA career.
Newhook opened the scoring six minutes into the first period by beating Tomas Vomacka (29 saves) from a weak angle along the left goal line. Moore's power play one-timer was tipped inside the right post by a UConn forward with 2:05 left in the frame.
Newhook added his second of the night on a back door tap-in from classmate Marshall Warren in the second period, seconds after a power play expired. McBain's first of the year gave the Eagles a 4-0 cushion as he cut into the slot for a glove side wrist shot against the grain.
Logan Hutsko and David Cotton capped off the scoring with two more tallies in the third period. Cotton's goal represented his 99th career point.
BC won the faceoff battle 33-23 over the Huskies and went 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
