Cotton Collects 100th Point in No. 16 Eagles’ 5-1 Win at Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. – David Cotton notched his 100th career point and No. 16 Boston College rolled to its fourth straight win by a 5-1 final over Vermont on Friday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse to open a weekend series.
The Eagles improved to 6-4-0 overall and 4-2-0 in Hockey East play, while the Catamounts fell to 1-6-0 (0-4-0 HEA).
Cotton became the 81st player in program history to post 100 career points and the first since Ryan Fitzgerald in 2017. The senior captain added an assist for his 24th career multi-point game and led the team with seven shots on goal.
Rookies Alex Newhook and Mike Hardman each had a goal and an assist, while Julius Mattila registered a pair of assists. For Newhook, it was his third straight multi-point game.
Freshman Spencer Knight stopped 27 of the 28 UVM shots he faced for his sixth win, giving him a .962 save percentage in the last five games.
BC out-shot Vermont 34-28, firing half of those shots on target during the second period.

1st 2:01, BC Goal (1-0) • Hardman created a turnover and chipped the puck to himself in the slot before ripping a low wrist shot inside the left post.
2nd 2:53, BC Goal (2-0) • After a goal-saving play from Newhook at the left post of the BC net, Mattila sent a pass across the low slot at the other end for Cotton for a first-time finish at the back door.
2nd 5:25, UVM Goal (2-1) • Boston College blocked an Andrew Lucas shot from the left point, but Joey Cipollone located the loose puck in the low slot and batted it past Knight's left pad.
2nd 10:03, BC Goal (3-1) • Mattila slid a pass across the UVM blue line for Logan Hutsko along the left wing, and the junior deked forehand to slide the puck between Stefanos Lekkas' five-hole.
3rd 1:37, BC Goal (4-1) • Hardman skated through the left wing circle and centered a pass for Newhook, who deflected the feed into the bottom left corner on his backhand.
3rd 18:58, BC Goal (5-1) • Jack McBain won a foot race to a loose puck near the right post and slid to the ice to finish an empty-netter.
