Knight Leads No. 16 Eagles to Series Sweep in Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Rookie netminder Spencer Knight posted his third shutout in 11 games as No. 16 Boston College blanked Vermont 3-0 on Saturday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse to sweep a weekend series.
The Eagles pushed their winning streak to five and improved to 7-4-0 overall and 5-2-0 in Hockey East play, while the Catamounts fell to 1-7-0 (0-5-0 HEA). BC also stretched its unbeaten streak to 11 games (9-0-2) against UVM.
David Cotton had a pair of assists to finish the series with four points, including his 100th career point on Friday night. Logan Hutsko's goal in the third period tied his career-high with a seven-game point streak.
Knight made 34 saves on the night, half of which came in the first period as Vermont out-shot BC by 10 in the opening frame.
The Eagles finally broke a scoreless deadlock with a pair of goals in the final five minutes of the second period. Aapeli Räsänen located a rebound on the power play at 15:51 to open the scoring, and Patrick Giles finished a give-and-go with classmate Marc McLaughlin shorthanded at 17:09.
BC added an insurance goal four minutes into the third when Hutsko took a lead pass from Cotton and beat Stefanos Lekkas (23 saves) down low on a partial breakaway.
Boston College limited the Catamounts to one shot on goal during a major power play later in the third to help preserve the shutout. The Eagles were 3-for-3 on the kill and 1-for-3 on the power play.

2nd 15:41, BC Goal (1-0) • Cotton got a piece of a rebound from Ben Finkelstein's perimeter shot at the left post and Räsänen muscled the puck over the goal line from the goalmouth.
2nd 17:09, BC Goal (2-0) • Giles created a turnover while shorthanded and executed a give-and-go with McLaughin on a 2-on-0, finishing from the right side against the grain to the left post.
3rd 3:55, BC Goal (3-0) • Cotton send a pass up the middle to spring Hutsko on a semi-breakaway and the junior leaned forward to sneak a shot under Lekkas' pads into the left corner.
