CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College men's soccer team host No. 1 Virginia on Friday night, Oct. 11, in an ACC battle. Kickoff at the Newton Soccer Field is set for 7 p.m., and the game will be live on ACC Network Extra.
BC (7-2-2, 1-2-1 ACC) is currently on a five game unbeaten streak at 3-0-2. The Eagles have won the last two matches – 2-1 vs. No. 3 Wake Forest and 3-0 vs. Northeastern. Of the five matches, four have been at home. Friday's match against Virginia is the final game of a four-game home stand.
The Eagles have been hindered by a number of injuries in the last month but slowly the starters are returning to the lineup. This past week, midfielder Kristofer Konradsson has played limited minutes but has made an immediate impact with a goal and an assist in the 3-0 win over Northeastern.
In the final weeks of October, Boston College has a tough stretch as the Eagles will travel to (RV) Louisville (Oct. 18), No. 11 Clemson (Oct. 25) and finish the three-game road trip at Harvard (Oct. 29). The Eagles will return home on Nov. 1 to host Syracuse in the final regular season ACC match.
Friday's opponent – No. 1-ranked Virginia (10-0-0, 4-0-0 ACC) – comes into the game well rested as the Cavaliers last game was vs. Louisville on Friday, Oct. 4 (W, 2-0). The undefeated Cavaliers have outscored opponents, 18-1, this season. The only team to score against Virginia was Duke on Sept. 13. The Blue Devils lost the home match, 3-1.
The Eagles and Cavaliers have played 14 times and Virginia has the edge, 7-5-2. The last time BC played Virginia was in the 2017 season. BC lost to the Cavs, 1-0, in the regular season. The two teams met again in the ACC Tournament in Charlottesville as Virginia earned a 4-0 victory.
