Eagles Earn 1-1 OT Draw vs. No. 1 Virginia

BC’s unbeaten streak extends to six games.
NEWTON, Mass. - The Boston College men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to six games with a 1-1 overtime draw against No. 1 Virginia on Friday night at the Newton Soccer Field.

Boston College is 3-0-3 in the last six games and improved to 7-2-3 overall and 1-2-2 in the ACC. No. 1 Virginia is now 10-0-1 and 4-0-1 in the conference.

The two teams played to a 0-0 tie in the first half. The Cavaliers would score first as Spencer Patton struck in the 56th minute off a pass from Daryl Dike.

Boston College continued to battle the best team in the country and the fight paid off. In the 64th minute freshman Michael Suski crossed a low ball into the box and Cavalier defender Andreas Ueland deflected it into the goal for a 1-1 tie. The own goal was the first goal Virginia has given up since Sept. 13 vs. Duke.

Christian Garner, the Eagles sophomore goalkeeper, came up big as he finished the game with a career-high nine saves, including six in the first half. He has started the last six games and has posted a 3-0-3 record.

In the overtime, Garner and the Eagles defense repeatedly turned away the Cavaliers offense. Virginia had five corner kicks which Boston College effectively defended.

- 64' | BC – Own Goal – Michael Suski sent a low ball into box that went off the foot of a Virginia defender to tie the game at 1-1. The own goal was the first given up by Virginia in six games.

- Seven Eagles played the full 110 minutes of action – GK, Christian Garner, defenders David Longo, Joe Kellett, Victor Souza and Tyshawn Rose along with forward Stefan Sigurdarson.
- Sophomore Kristofer Konradsson played 50 minutes in his third game back to action. He entered the game in the second half.
- BC is 3-0-3 in the last six games. The Eagles have earned wins over UMass (1-0), No. 3 Wake Forest (2-1) and Northeastern (3-0). The ties were against Virginia Tech on the road (2-2 OT), Merrimack (0-0 OT) and No. 1 Virginia (1-1 OT). Â
