Eagles Fall Just Short at BU

Maura Grimes and Victoria Lin each claimed a program record
BOSTON -- The Boston College swim and dive team dropped their first meet of 2019, falling to cross-town rival Boston University. The men's team fell by just six points with a 148.5-142.5 final score, while the women's team fell 152-148.
Highlighting the day for the Eagles were Maura Grimes and Victoria Lin, as they both claimed Boston College school records. Grimes recorded a program-best 55:29 finish in the 100-yard backstroke and Lin claimed the top spot with her 55:29 finish in the 100-yard butterfly. The women's relay team of Kristina Fecarotta, Ashleigh Scott, Maura Grimes and Ali Kea tied the program record with their 3:26.24 finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- The team of Maura Grimes, Taylor Covington, Victoria Lin and Haley Dolan took first int he 200-yard medley relay, finishing in 1:43.13.
- Victoria Lin (2:03.22) and Isabel Blaze (2:05.71) placed first and second in the 200-yard butterfly.
- Ali Kea took first in the 50-yard freestyle with a 23.55 finish.
- Gabriella Taghian placed second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 238.80. Ellie Uhl (237.67) and Mackenna Buchanan (227.55) placed third and fourth.
- Maura Grimes (2:01.28), Grace Edwards (2:02.71) and Natalie Dalla Riva (2:05.51) swept the top-three finishes in the 200-yard backstroke.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- The relay team of Taylor Cortens, Charles Kleinsmith, Colin O'Leary and Colin Derdeyn placed first in the 200-yard medley relay with a 1:30.69 finish.
- Taylor Cortens (50.03) and Alex Shehab (51.58) placed first and second, respectively, in the 100-yard backstroke.
- Charles Kleinsmith (55.77), Billy Miller (56.82) and Sami Fares (57.47) swept the top-three finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke.
- Colin O'Leary placed first in the 200-yard butterfly with a 1:48.97 finish.
- Colin Derdeyn took the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle with a 21.15 finish.
- Robert McCrory placed second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 263.55.
- Colin O'Leary placed first in the 200-yard backstroke with a final time of 1:49.26.
- Charles Kleinsmith took the top spot in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in 2:05.53.
- Taylor Cortens placed first in the 200-yard individual medley with a 1:51.92 finish.
The Eagles return action once again at Boston University for their next meet as the Terriers host the Boston Winter Open, Feb. 8-9.Â
