Lonergan Scores Twice, No. 10 Eagles Top Vermont

Lonergan finished with three points, Connolly earns two assists
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Caitrin Lonergan had three points while Erin Connolly finished with two assists in her 100th career game as the No. 10 Boston College women's hockey team topped Vermont, 5-2, on Saturday at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
After a scoreless first period, Vermont opened the scoring early in the second but four straight goals from BC put the Eagles in control. Megan Keller and Lonergan found the back of the net in the second and then Delaney Belinskas and Lonergan scored in opening four minutes of the third. The Catamounts potted a goal midway through the final frame to pull within two but Connolly's empty-net goal with 1:15 to play put the game away.
Maddy McArthur finished with 20 saves for BC and Melissa Black had 24 for UVM. The Eagles had a 29-22 edge in shots on goal while UVM when 1-for-4 on the power play and BC was 0-for-3.

- 2nd, 5:51 | 0-1, UVM GOAL: On the power play, Anna Erickson dumped the puck to Kristina Shanahan along the left circle, and Shanhan floated towards the dot before wristing a shot inside the left post.
- 2nd, 8:11 | 1-1, BC GOAL: Vermont tried to clear the puck but Keller was able to keep it in at the edge of the blue line and then skate it around two defenders before hitting Lonergan at the bottom of the left circle. Lonergan gave it right back to Keller in the low slot and she one-timed it past Black's glove.
- 2nd, 14:46 | 2-1, BC GOAL: The puck popped into the neutral zone and Lonergan skated on to it and broke in all alone on Black. Lonergan then faked to the right before cutting to her backhand and lifting the puck over Black's pad and blocker.
- 3rd, 2:39 | 3-1, BC GOAL: After Connolly wheeled around the offensive zone, her centering pass from the right side found its way through the slot to Jillian Fey for a shot. Fey's shot from the top of the left circle was deflected by Belinskas through traffic and in.
- 3rd, 4:11 | 4-1, BC GOAL: Makenna Newkirk picked up a loose puck behind the net after a Vermont shot attempt and slid it to Lonergan on the right half wall. Lonergan skated the ice and lofted her shot over the glove form the bottom of the right circle.
- 3rd, 12:57 | 4-2, UVM GOAL: After a delayed off-sides, Maude Poulin-Labelle drifted in and grabbed her own blocked shot to put back past McArthur's blocker.
- 3rd, 18:45 | 5-2, BC GOAL: Maegan Beres drove down the left wing and then cut in towards goal. Beres pulled the defenders and then slipped a pass to Connolly in the slot to tap into the open net.
- BC is now 47-3-3 all-time against the Catamounts … head coach Katie Crowley is 36-1-4.
- Megan Keller moved her point streak to five games while Delaney Belinskas and Serena Sommerfield bumped theirs to three.
- Keller's goal was her 13th of the season, a new career-high.
- Belinskas' game-winning goal was her second in the last three games.
- Jillian Fey's assist was the first of her career ... the rookie scored her first career goal last night.
- Caitrin Lonergan had a game-high five shots on goal for BC … four Eagles finished with at least three shots apiece.
- Lonergan's three points (2-1-3) marked a season-high for the junior ... it was her seventh multi-point game of the season.
- The Eagles have now won 23 consecutive games against the Catamounts … BC is unbeaten in the last 32 games with UVM (29-3-0).
- This was the 14th straight game in which BC has out-shot its opponent.
