DiEmmanuele Steals Three Bases in Loss to Louisville

Dreswick pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Boston College softball team fell, 4-2, to Louisville at Ulmer Stadium on Friday night despite a team-leading two runs and three stolen bases by junior Lexi DiEmmanuele.

BC scored first in the game as a ground out by senior Annie Murphy plated DiEmmanuele, who reached base on a walk. A solo home run by Megan Hensley in the fourth inning tied the score at one. The Eagles re-took the lead in the fifth when they loaded the bases on a bunt single by DiEmmanuele, a hit by pitch by Murphy and a walk by freshman Emme Martinez. Freshman CC Cook hit a single to the pitcher to drive home DiEmmanuele. Hensley hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to give the Cardinals a 4-2 lead.

Redshirt junior Allyson Frei threw 4.1 innings on the day, allowing four runs and striking out three. Senior Jessica Dreswick threw the final 1.2 innings and did not allow a hit or a run in her relief outing.
BC will play the second game of the series against the Cardinals tomorrow, April 28 at 1 p.m. at Ulmer Stadium.

- DiEmmanuele stole her team-leading 20th ,21st  and 22nd bags of the season. This is the first time this season that the junior has stolen three bases in one game. She is second place on the BC all-time list with 76 career stolen bases. DiEmmanuele has now reached base safely in six straight games. The junior also scored both runs for the Eagles on the night and is second on the team with 30 runs scored, marking this the seventh time this season that DiEmmanuele has scored two or more runs in a single game.
- Murphy's 16 game hitting streak ended tonight, but the senior extended her reached base streak to 21 straight games.
- With one hit in the game, senior Chloe Sharabba extended her hitting streak to four games.

How it Happened:
- BC opened the scoring in the third inning when DiEmmanuele reached base with a one-out walk and promptly stole second. Sharabba lined a ball at the third baseman to reach base on a single, putting runners on the corners for BC. Murphy hit a ball to the shortstop, allowing DiEmmanuele to score and giving BC a 1-0 lead.
- A solo home run to left center off the bat of Hensley in the fourth inning tied the score at one. Jenna Jordan doubled to right center and Jordyn Wolfe singled up the middle to put runners on the corners for the Cardinals with one out, but Frei got Kyra Snyder to strikeout looking and Celene Funke to line out to get out of the jam and hold Louisville to one run.
- DiEmmanuele hustled out a bunt single in the fifth inning to reach base with one out. She stole second and Murphy reached on a hit by pitch. DiEmmaunele stole third and Martinez walked to load the bases. Cook hit a single to the pitcher, plating DiEmmanuele and giving BC a 2-1 lead.
- Caitlin Ferguson drew a walk to lead off the fifth. Sidney Melton reached on a bunt single. Hensley hit a home run over the right field wall, making it 4-2 Cardinals.
