Cook and Martinez Log Multi-Hit Games in Loss to Louisville

Dreswick threw her 15th complete game of the season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Boston College softball team fell to Louisville, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at Ulmer Stadium despite a complete game performance by senior pitcher Jessica Dreswick.

Louisville jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Megan Hensley reached on a fielder's choice and scored on an error by freshman Cami Sellers that allowed Jenna Jordan to reach base. BC took the lead in the fifth when junior Lexi DiEmmanuele reached on a fielding error, stole second and scored on a single by senior Annie Murphy. A single by Cook to left plated Murphy, making it 2-1. The Cardinals responded in the bottom of the inning with a bases-clearing, two RBI single to left field by Hensley that gave Louisville a 3-2 advantage.

Dreswick threw six innings, allowing one earned run, eight hits, and recording two strikeouts.
BC will play the third game of the series against the Cardinals tomorrow, April 29 at noon at Ulmer Stadium.

How it Happened:
- Sidney Melton led off the first inning with a single up the middle and quickly stole second. Maddy Newman hit a single and advanced to second on the throw and moved to third on a throwing error by Martinez. Melton advanced to third on the play but was out at home as Dreswick threw the ball to Martinez who made the tag out. Hensley reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on the play as Newman was caught in a run-down at third but was ultimately tagged out by Sharabba. Jordan reached on an error that allowed Hensley to score, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.
- BC posed its biggest threat of the game yet when Martinez and junior Allyson Moore each picked up a hit on the other side of a pop out by Cook. A sacrifice bunt by senior Jordan Chimento allowed both runners to advance a base, but a ground out by junior Carly Severini ended the inning.
- With one out in the fifth inning, DiEmmanuele reached on a fielding error by the pitcher and she quickly stole second. Murphy hit a single to right center field, plating DiEmmanuele. Martinez singled to right to put runners on the corners for BC. Cook roped a single to left field, scoring Murphy and giving the Eagles a 2-1 advantage.
- In the bottom of the inning, Melton singled to third base and stole second. Newman hit a single to left field to put runners on the corners for the Cardinals. Hensley hit a bases-clearing single to left field to put Louisville up 3-2.
