Eagles Fall in Series Finale to Louisville, 8-0

Annie Murphy has now reached base safely in 23 straight games
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Boston College softball team dropped the third and final game of the series to Louisville, 8-0, in five innings on Sunday afternoon.

Louisville jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning off of a double by Megan Hensley and a single by Nicole Pufahl. The Cardinals would add on one more run in the third and three in the fourth off of singles by Celene Funke, Sidney Melton and Maddy Newman. A single by Hensley back to the pitcher allowed two runs to score. A triple by Funke in the fifth plated Pufahl, who reached on a walk. After the Cardinals loaded the bases for the second straight inning, a walk by Melton forced home a run to secure an 8-0 win for Louisville.
Redshirt junior Allyson Frei threw two innings, allowing three runs and giving up five hits. Senior Jessica Dreswick tossed the remaining 2.1 innings and allowed six hits and three earned runs while striking out one.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning off of a double by Hensley and a single by Pufahl. Louisville would tack on one more run in the second and add on five more runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a commanding 8-0 lead.
How it Happened:
- With two outs in the first inning, Hensley doubled to center field. Jenna Jordan hit a single to right field to plate Hensley. Pufahl singled to center field, scoring Jordan and putting the Cardinals up 2-0.
- The Cardinals added a run in the second inning when Alison Szydlowski hit a single to the shortstop and then stole second. Melton singled up the middle to plate Szydlowski and increase Louisville's lead to 3-0.
- BC posed its biggest threat of the game in the fourth inning when Severini singled to left field, junior Allyson Moore reached on an error by the Louisville second baseman and sophomore Olivia Markopoulos reached on a hit by pitch to load the bases with two outs. A pop out to short by DiEmmanuele ended the inning as BC was unable to score.
- Funke led off the fourth inning with a single to the pitcher and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kyra Snyder. After a fly out to center, Blaire Bass drew a walk. Melton singled to center field to plate Funke and give the Cardinals a runner on first and second. Newman singled to shortstop to load the bases for Louisville. Hensley hit the ball back at Dreswick where it tipped off her glove and rolled into the left side of the infield, scoring Bass and Melton and increasing Louisville's lead to 6-0.
- Pufahl reached base on a lead-off walk in the fifth inning. A triple by Funke to center field allowed her to score. Szydlowski singled back to the pitcher and Bass reached on a hit by pitch to load the bases with one out. Melton drew a walk to force home Funke and secure an 8-0 victory for the Cardinals.
