Eight starters recorded a hit in the game
DURHAM N.C. – Despite a season high 12 hits on the day for the Eagles, the Boston College softball team lost, 6-5, to Duke in its second conference game of the year on Saturday afternoon.

Entering the fourth inning trailing 2-1, the Eagles loaded the bases on a single by freshman Cami Sellers, followed by a fielder's choice by classmate CC Cook and a single to center field by senior Jordan Chimento. Junior Allyson Moore laid down a seeing-eye bunt that the Duke infielders could not get to quick enough, allowing Moore to reach safely and two runs to score. A single by senior Chloe Sharabba to left field drove home Moore to give BC a 5-2 lead.

Duke responded in the bottom of the inning though as it loaded the bases on a pair of walks and a single. Dominique Salinas reached on a fielding error that scored one run and Rachel Abboud hit a single to right field to drive home two more runs and tie the score. Raine Wilson hit a single to right center in the sixth inning to drive home Reilly Metzger and make it 6-5. The Eagles put runners on the corners with two outs in the seventh, but were unable to score.

BC looks for their first conference win when it takes on Duke in the final game of the three-game series tomorrow at 1 p.m.

With the score tied at five entering the sixth inning, Amelia Wiercioch singled to left field to lead off the inning. Metzger pinch ran and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Jameson Kavel. Wilson hit a single to right center to score Metzger and give the Blue Devils a 6-5 lead that they would hold for the remainder of the game.

BC Highlights:
- Â Sharabba has now recorded a hit in 17 of the 23 games this season and has reached base safely in 19 games. She is leading the team in hits with 26. She also now has a team-leading nine multiple hit games.
- Junior Lexi DiEmmanuele showed off her speed, reaching base on two bunt singles on the day. DiEmmanuele has a .600 average when bunting this season.
- Senior Annie Murphy is second on the team with 21 hits with her single in the game.
- Junior Carly Severini is second on the team with 10 runs batted in.
- Moore picked up her fifth and sixth RBIs of the season. She now has two multiple-RBI games on the season.
- With her two singles on the day, Sellers now has three multi-hit games. She leads the freshmen class with 14 hits this season.
- The 12 hits on the day was the most the Eagles have recorded in a game all season. Eight of the starters for BC recorded a hit. Four collected multi-hit games.

How it Happened:
- Boston College jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when DiEmmanuele reached base on a bunt single. Sharabba singled up the middle to advance DiEmmanuele to third. Junior Carly Severini hit a single to right field to score DiEmmanuele and give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
- The Blue Devils responded in the bottom of the inning when Kavel led off with a double to deep left field and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. Kavel scored on a wild pitch to put Duke on the board. Abboud singled to right center field to put runners on first and second with one out. Jill Ferraro reached on a fielder's choice as BC picked up the second out of the inning. Peyton St. George singled to shortstop and Abboud scored on a throwing error on the play to put Duke up 2-1.
- The Eagles' bats came to life in the fourth inning, starting with a single by Sellers through the right side. Cook reached on a fielder's choice and Chimento singled to center field to load the bases with one out. Moore squeezed a single by the pitcher, reaching base safely and scoring Sellers and Cook. With two outs, Chimento scored on a wild pitch and Moore advanced to second base. DiEmmanuele reached base on a bunt single to the pitcher, allowing Moore to move to third. Sharabba picked up a two-out single to left field to score Moore and give BC a 5-2 lead.
- Duke led off the bottom of the inning with back-to-back walks. A single by Metzger to third base loaded the bases with nobody out. Kavel reached on a fielder's choice to give BC the first out of the inning as Frei got the force-out at home. Salinas reached on a fielding error, scoring one run. Abboud singled to right field to drive home two runs and tie the score at five.
- The Eagles loaded the bases with two outs in the fifth inning on a single, hit by pitch and walk, but were unable to score.
- Wiercioch led off the sixth inning with a single to left field and she advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kavel. Wilson singled to right center field to score the runner on third base and give Duke a 6-5 lead.
- Cook singled to right field to lead off the seventh inning and put the winning run on base for BC. Moore hit a single to center field to put runners on the corners with two outs, but the Eagles did not score.
