
Dreswick Tosses Complete Game in 1-0 Loss to Duke

The right-hander allowed just four hits and one walk on the day
DURHAM N.C. – Despite a complete game performance by senior pitcher Jessica Dreswick, the Boston College softball team lost to Duke, 1-0, in the final game of the three game series on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles now have a 0-3 record after their first weekend of conference play.

The Maroon and Gold out-hit the Blue Devils, 7-4, on the day and had opportunities to score throughout. Specifically, junior Allyson Moore led off the fifth inning with a single to center field. She advanced to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Olivia Markopoulos, placing the winning run at third base. Duke pitcher Peyton St. George forced two ground outs though, to end the inning.

In the following inning, Jameson Kavel led off with a single through the right side followed by another single off the bat of Dominique Salinas. The runners advanced a base each on a fielder's choice and Kavel plated the winning run when Jill Ferraro reached on a fielding error.

BC opens ACC play at home when it hosts Virginia on Friday, March 23 at 6 p.m. The Eagles will play UMass first on Wednesday, March 21 at 4 p.m.

- Juniors Lexi DiEmmanuele and Carly Severini led the team with two hits each. DiEmmanuele is now on a four-game hitting streak and has six total multiple-hit games this season. The junior led the team with five hits on the weekend. Severini picked up her fifth multi-hit game
- Moore collected one hit on the day and led the team with a .444 batting average over the weekend.
- With her team-leading 11th walk of the season today, senior Chloe Sharabba has now reached base safely in 20 of the 24 games this season.
- Freshman CC Cook has picked up a hit in the past three games after picking up a single in the second inning.

How it Happened:
- BC threatened in the second inning when Severini led off with a single down the left field line. Cook singled through the left side to put runners on first and second with one out, but the Eagles were unable to score.
- Severini started the fourth inning with a walk and senior Jordan Chimento singled through the right side to put runners on base for BC, but the game remained scoreless as Amelia Wiercioch forced a series of ground outs.
- Moore led off the fifth inning with a single to center field. She advanced to second on a wild pitch and then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Markopoulos. Despite having a runner on third base with one out, BC did not score.
- Kavel singled through the right side to lead off the sixth inning and Salinas followed with a single through the left side to put runners on first and second with nobody out. A fielder's choice advanced both runners one base. Ferraro reached on a fielding error, allowing Kavel to plate the lone run of the game.
