Sharabba Home Run Leads Eagles to Victory Over Texas State

Jessica Dreswick tossed a career-high 11 strikeouts in BC win
SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Boston College softball team earned its first win of the 2018 season over Texas State, 4-3, on Monday afternoon in San Marcos, Texas. The Bobcats received 35 votes in the USA Today, NFCA Coaches Poll.

Senior Chloe Sharabba continued her strong start to the season with a two-run home run in the top of the third inning to give BC an early 2-0 lead. Freshman Emme Martinez added to the Eagles lead with a home run of her own in the following inning. Despite a comeback by the Bobcats in the bottom of the sixth inning, senior Jessica Dreswick held them to only three runs. The right-hander threw a career-high 11 strikeouts and allowed only two walks in her complete game performance to earn her first win of the season.

Senior Annie Murphy led the team with three hits on the day, including one double. She is now tied for fourth place in the BC record books with 31 career doubles.

BC returns to action when it participates in the ACC-B1G Ten Challenge on Friday, Feb. 16 - Sunday, Feb. 18. The Eagles play their first game of the tournament against Indiana at 1 p.m. on Friday.

- Martinez notched her first collegiate hit - a home run - in the top of the fourth inning. The rookie also collected a double on the day.
- Sharabba hit her first home run of the season in the top of the third inning. Having scored five runs in the last five games, Sharabba is now in sole possession of eighth place in the BC record books in career runs scored with 100.
- Murphy collected her fourth, fifth and sixth hits of the season with a single up the middle in the top of the first inning, a single to second base in the top of the fourth and her first double of the season to left center in the top of the third inning.
- With her three games started this past weekend, Dreswick is now tied for third all-time with Britney Thompson for games started with 77. Dreswick is also now tied for ninth place in the BC record books with 29 complete games.
- Junior Lexi DiEmmanuele, who is second in the BC record books in stolen bases, stole her second bag of the season in the top of the second inning.

How it Happened:
- Murphy doubled to left center to open the top of the third inning. Sharabba blasted a two-run home run down the left field line to give the Eagles an early 2-0 lead.
- Martinez added to the Eagles' lead with a home run to left field in the top of the fourth inning.
- After Hailey Mackay doubled to left center, Ariel Ortiz drove a single to center field to score MacKay and give the Bobcats their first score of the day, as they trailed 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
- Texas State had runners on the corners with nobody out in the bottom of the sixth inning. MacKay, after a 10-pitch at-bat, singled to left field to drive home Christiana McDowell. A sacrifice bunt by Tara Oltmann put runners on second and third with one out. Ortiz hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Brianna Sannem and tying the score at 3-3.
- Sharabba led off the seventh inning with a walk. Junior Carly Severini reached on a throwing error, giving BC runners on the corners with nobody out. Chimeto laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Severini and score Sharabba, giving BC a 4-3 lead.
- Dreswick held the Bobcats scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory for the Eagles.
