Eagles Split First Day of ACC/B1G Ten Challenge

Jessica Dreswick threw a combined 9.2 innings on the day, allowing only two runs
ATLANTA, Ga. – The Boston College softball team split its first two games of the ACC/B1G Ten Challenge on Friday, falling to Nebraska, 2-1, and defeating Indiana, 4-0.

The Eagles started the day in a pitcher's duel against Nebraska. Despite a strong six inning performance from senior pitcher Jessica Dreswick, who only allowed two runs and four hits with six strikeouts, the Eagles fell to the Huskers, 2-1. Freshman Cami Sellers hit a home run to score the lone run of the game.

BC bounced back in the second game of the day behind a dominant two-hit shutout by Dreswick and redshirt junior pitcher Allyson Frei. The Eagles scored against the Hoosiers early and a home run by senior Chloe Sharabba in the seventh helped secure a 4-0 victory.

The team will play Indiana again tomorrow, Feb. 17 at 10 a.m.

BC Highlights:
- Sellers hit her second home run of the season in the first game of the day. The rookie also stole her first base of her college career in the top of the third inning against Indiana.
- Classmate CC Cook picked up her first collegiate hit with a single up the middle in the sixth inning of game two.
- Sharabba blasted her second home run of the season with a shot to left center field in the top of the seventh inning of game two.
- Junior Allyson Moore notched her first hit of the season – a double to left field – in the top of the third inning of game one.
- On the mound as the starter in game one, Dreswick did not allow any hits or walks through three innings and she recorded five strikeouts through four. She finished the first game having allowed only two runs and four hits. The right-hander recorded six total strikeouts. In game two, Dreswick threw 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and collecting another six strikeouts for a total of 12 on the day. She also recorded a save in the victory.
- In the second game, Frei pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and recording three strikeouts.

How it Happened:
- Boston College posed the first real threat of the game in the top of the third inning when Moore reached base on a double to left field and Murphy drew a walk to give the Eagles two runners on base with two outs, but they were unable to score.
- Sellers blasted a home run to center field in the top of the fourth to give BC a 1-0 lead.
- Madi Unzicker hit a two-run home run to left field to drive in Tristen Edwards to make it 2-1 Huskers in the bottom of the fourth inning.
- Sharabba led off the top of the sixth inning with a single to third base to put the winning run on base for BC but the Eagles were unable to score, making the final score 2-1.

How it Happened:
- BC got the scoring started early against Indiana when senior Annie Murphy drew a walk, junior Carly Severini singled to left field and Sellers walked to load the bases with only one out. Chimento grounded out to first base to advance all of the runners, scoring Murphy. DiEmmanuele notched a single in the following at-bat to drive in Severini, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
- Indiana threatened in the bottom of the second inning, but a throw from Sharabba to Chimento got the runner out at the plate. Frei struck out one of the Hoosiers for the third out, leaving two runners stranded.
- DiEmmanuele led off the sixth inning with a walk, followed by a stolen base. She advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Emme Martinez. Cook picked up a two-out RBI single with a hit up the middle, driving in DiEmmanuele to make it 3-0.
- Sharabba added an insurance run for the Eagles with a deep home run to left center field in the top of the seventh inning, increasing the BC lead to 4-0.
