No. 6 Eagles Register Win in Season Opener over No. 15 Notre Dame

Senior captain Kaileen Hart produced a game-high five points to boost the Eagles to victory
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The No. 6 Boston College lacrosse team managed many firsts in its first victory of the season over No. 15 Notre Dame, 13-11, Saturday afternoon in South Bend.

The Irish (0-1, 0-1 ACC) took the first two goals of the game, but the Eagles (1-0, 1-0 ACC) answered immediately for a 2-2 tie. There was no clear command of the game during the first half, but after a 5-0 run in the second half, the Maroon and Gold win was sealed.

Starting goalie junior Lauren Daly registered six saves while ND's Samantha Giacolone notched 13 saves.

- Eight different Eagles added at least a point in the triumph over Notre Dame.
-Â Senior KaileenHart notched the game-high points (4 G, 1 A), while junior Dempsey Arsenault registered a hat trick.
- Sophomore Sheila Rietano registered her first career goal to open up scoring for the Eagles and sophomore Cara Urbank appeared in her first career game, notching an assist.
- Rietano led the game in draw controls (7), setting a new career high.
- In her first game back in action, redshirt senior Tess Chandler notched a goal.

TURNING POINT
- After a very back-and-forth first frame, the Eagles began the second half with an 8-7 advantage. Notre Dame violated the shot clock, giving BC possession. Hart registered her third goal of the game, which was the second goal of a 5-0 run from which the Irish could not recover. Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
- No team found a commanding lead in the first half, staying within one point going into the half.
- Notre Dame opened the second frame with a goal, but Apuzzo answered with one of her own, which kicked off a 5-0 run in which Hart and Arsenault netted the goals that secured the two Eagles' hat tricks.
- Hart scored the Eagle's final goal in the remaining time, and though the Irish had four goals in the final five minutes, it was not enough.
