
Eagles Start Season by Breaking Records at New England Catholic Invitational

New pool records were set in the 400-yard medley relay for both the men's and women's teams
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College swim and dive team began their season by shattering records across the board while hosting the annual New England Catholic Invitational. Both men's and women's teams took the top overall spot over the meet, with the women earning 1,278 points and the men totaling 1,470. Following behind the women was Saint Francis with 588 points and Providence for the men with 700. The first-place teams for the 400-yard medley relay broke pool records for both the men's and women's teams: the team of Taylor Cortens, Charlie Kleinsmith, Colin O'Leary and Max Threlkeld's 3:26.23 set the record for the men while Maura Grimes, Alexa Lantin, Victoria Lin and Ashleigh Scott's 3:54.35 set the record for the women.
The team of Julie Dobson, Haley Dolan, Maria Abrams and Ali Kea took the top spot in the 200 yard freestyle relay, earning 40 points with a time of 1:36.50. Caroline Even, Laney Thomas, Lauren Quinn and Sydney Dacey came in fourth with a time of 1:40.56 and 30 points.
Kevin Chandra, Damion Ribeiro, Michael Spence and Colin Derdeyn made up the 200-yard freestyle relay first-place team for the men, coming in with a time of 1:25.37 and 40 points. Eagles also held the second-place spot: Paul Boyce, Evan O'Mara, Oliver Brown and Andrew Revers had a time of 1:28.03 in the relay.
Alexa Lantin recorded a 5:14.63 fourth-place time in the 500-yard freestyle while Zander Santana grabbed the first place spot for the men in the same event with a 4:44.76 time. Colin O'Leary came in second with a 4:45.77, Michael Hinton grabbed third with a 4:49.19 and Will Suchy followed behind at fourth with a 4:50.99 time.
Grace Edwards grabbed the third spot in the 200-yard individual medley relay with a time of 2:12.20. Eagles also ranked fifth, sixth and seventh place as well: Dakota Meyer placed fifth (2:12.69), Lauren Quinn was sixth (2:13.65) and Natalie Dalla Riva placed seventh (2:14.76).
Eagles grabbed nine of the 11 top spots on the men's side of the 200-yard individual medley. Taylor Cortens, Ryan Price, Kevin Chandra, Charlie Kleinsmith and Lucas Saliba placed first through fifth, respectively. Peter Shepanzyk placed seventh and Brendan Gatward, Connor Futch, and Jonathan Farah placed ninth through 11th.
In the women's 50-yard freestyle, Eagles took the top four spots. Ali Kea, Haley Dolan, Ashleigh Scott and Julie Dobson placed first through fourth, respectively. For the same event, Damion Ribeiro, Michael Spence and Max Threlheld took the top three spots for the men's team. Billy Miller, Samuel Roche, Paul Boyce and Colin Derdeyn placed fifth through eighth.
For the ninth event of the meet, the team of Maura Grimes, Alexa Lantin, Victoria Lin and Ashleigh Scott placed first in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:54.35. Michaela McGeary, Taylor Covington, Ina Elcott and Aileen Coyne posted the second-best time in the event with a time of 3:59.74. Similarly, the men's relay teams took the top three spots: Taylor Cortens, Charlie Kleinsmith, Colin O'Leary and Max Threlkeld placed first (3:26.23) while the team of Samuel Roche, Billy Miller, Ty Gruwell, and Zander Santana placed second (3:32.24) and Alex Shehab, Peter Shepanzyk, Cole Gvozdas and Denis Reznik placed third (3:35.76).
Ryan Price placed first in the 400-yard individual medley relay with a 4:13.31 time. Eagles also held the next five spots in the event as Zander Santana, Lucas Saliba, Will Suchy, Cole Gvozdas and Matt DeNave held spots two through six.
Ali Kea and Ashleigh Scott took the top two spots in the women's 200-yard relay, with times of 1:56.17 and 1:57.78, respectively. Samuel Roche, Taylor Cortens and Zander Santana took the top three spots in the same event for the men's team, earning times of 1:44.68, 1:45.36 and 1:46.12 respectively.
Taylor Covington recorded a first-place time of 1:07.47 in the women's 100-yard breaststroke. Charlie Kleinsmith (59.33), Billy Miller (1:00.10) and Sami Fares (1:00.57) took the top three spots in the same event for the men's team.
The Eagles took the top four spots for the women's 100-yard backstroke: Maura Grimes (58.83) earned first, while Michaela McGeary (59.81), Ina Elcott (59.91) and Katherine Karle (1:01.20) followed behind. On the men's side, Alex Shehab (53:55), Talmage Corey (54.28) and Ty Gruwell (54.49) took the top three spots.
Grace Edwards (2:05.65) and Maura Grimes (2:08.74) took the top two spots for the women's 200-yard backstroke. Taylor Cortens (1:52.69), Michael Hinton (1:54.37), Colin O'Leary (1:54.76) and Alex Shehab (1:56.63) grabbed the top four spots for the men's team in the same event.

Victoria Lin (2:09.59) and Isabel Blaze (2:10.12) placed first and second, respectively, in the women's 200-yard butterfly race.
The team of Ashleigh Scott, Julie Dobson, Aileen Coyne and Ali Kea placed first in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:34.26. On the men's side, the team of Michael Hinton, Matthew Shelton, Zander Santana and Max Threlkeld placed first with a time of 3:10.24.
For the diving competition, Elizabeth Uhl earned a final score of 240.05 in the women's one-meter dive, taking the top spot. Robert McCrory found the top spot for the men's diving competition with a final score of 229.20. McCrory also placed first in the men's three meter dive with a score of 242.60.
The Eagles next compete at home next weekend on Friday, Oct. 21 with a 5 p.m. meet against Bryant.
