The program’s first-ever head coach passed away at the age of 77
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Former Boston College swimming and diving head coach Tom Groden passed away on Friday, his family announced. He was 77.

Groden, a 1972 graduate of Boston College, began the program in 1972 following his graduation and served as the only head coach in program history up until his retirement after the 2015-16 season.

He recorded 773 victories at the helm of the men's and women's programs. Groden became the first-ever NCAA coach to record 300 wins with both a men's and women's program at the same institution.
