The swim and dive team hosts Bryant for their second meet of the season
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Following a record-breaking weekend hosting the annual New England Catholic Invitational, the Boston College swim and dive team is set to host Bryant this Friday, October 12 at 5 p.m. for a meet in the Flynn Recreation Complex pool.
While the Bulldogs have yet to compete this season, they returned key contributors to their rosters for 2018-19. Senior Jillian Rice set the women's 100-yard freestyle record last season with a 50.07 time on Feb. 24. Junior Alyssa DiFiore returns on the distance side – at the same meet, she set new school records in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:24.57 and in the 1650-yard freestyle coming in at 17:14.04. Heather Wong holds a 2:18.18 record in the 200-yard breaststroke while Elin Svard holds records in both the 50-yard and 100-yard butterfly, with respective times of 26.38 and 53.69.
On the men's side, senior Oliver French holds school records in the 1000-yard and 1650-yard freestyle races with times of 9:32.45 and 15:59.20. Sophomore Matthew Mays holds records in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke (49.36, 1:47.70) and the 200-yard butterfly races (1:49.13).
Coming off of the New England Catholic Invitational, the Eagles recorded new pool records of their own – both men's and women's 400-yard medley relay teams broke the previous record set in 1991. The men's team of Taylor Cortens, Charles Kleinsmith, Colin O'Leary and Max Threlkeld recorded a time of 3:26.23 while the women's team of Maura Grimes, Alexa Lantin, Victoria Lin and Ashleigh Scott held a 3:54.35 time. The Eagles as a whole took the top overall spot in the meet, with the men's team totaling 1,470 points and the women earning 1,278.
