Enstrom's 61st minute goal proves to be the game-winner
NEWTON, Mass. – The Boston College men's soccer team used a 61st minute goal from Simon Enstrom to earn a 1-0 win over No. 17 NC State on Friday night at the Newton Campus Fields. With the upset, the Eagles move to 3-3-3 overall and 2-3-0 in ACC play while NC State bumps to 6-3-2 overall and 1-3-1 in conference play.
Though the Wolfpack maintained possession for the majority of the opening 15 minutes, it would be Trevor Davock that fired off the first shot on goal of the game when he cut down the left flank for a look from the top of the box.
The Eagles eventually started gaining some traction and were able to get some balls into the box. A flurry of looks started in the 35th minute. First Davock found Enstrom for a crack in the middle of the box that just got punched over the crossbar and the ensuing corner saw Joshua Forbes deflect a ball on frame that Leon Krapf was able to save.
With the momentum on their side, the Eagles kept pressing for a lead and it finally came in the 61st minute off of the head of Enstrom. NC State's best chance at equalizing came in the 77th minute off a cross whipped in that found the head of Christoph Schneuwly but it went high.
BC kept pushing to pad the lead and on the other end, the defense did well to withstand pressure. Antonio Chavez Borrelli's corralling of a corner late in the second half was crucial in limiting a second look for the Wolfpak. The sophomore also had a key punch on a corner with two minutes to play.
The Eagles held the final edge in shots on goal at 7-0 while Krapf finished with six saves.
Boston College returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 9, when Harvard crosses the river for a non-conference matchup at the Newton Campus Fields. The teams will kick off at 7 p.m.
