Men’s Soccer Wins Inaugural Northeast Spring Cup

The Eagles went unbeaten in the inaugural tournament
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College men's soccer won the inaugural Northeast Spring Cup on Saturday evening, defeating Bryant in penalty kicks, 4-3, after playing to a 0-0 draw in the championship match at Centreville Bank Stadium, home of USL Championship team Rhode Island FC.
After a scoreless draw, the game went to penalty kicks to determine the winner of the inaugural tournament. Moritz Gundelach, Dylan Mafong, Bryan Toro, and Erick Almendares each netted a penalty kick for BC, while Andrej Borak made a crucial save on Bryant's last attempt to claim the victory.
Following the match, Gundelach was named the MVP of the tournament.
BC won the North Group after picking up seven points across the three group stage games. The Eagles opened the Cup at Vermont, playing to a 1-1 draw against the Catamounts before a 5-4 penalty shootout victory to pick up the extra point.
Boston College made the short trip to Boston University or its next match and earned a 3-1 win over its local rival. In their final group stage match, the Eagles picked up a 5-4 penalty shootout win over UNH after playing to a 1-1 tie at the Newton Soccer Complex.
Michael Asare led the team in goals with three over the four games.
