Enstrom's Early Goal Lifts Eagles Over Harvard, 1-0
October 09, 2018 | Men's Soccer
The senior nets his fourth game-winning goal of the season in the non-conference win.
NEWTON, Mass. – Simon Enstrom scored less than two minutes into the first half and the Boston College men's soccer team held on to defeat Harvard, 1-0, on Tuesday night at the Newton Campus Soccer Field.
The non-conference win moves the Eagles to 4-3-3 overall while Harvard bumps to 3-8-0.
The Crimson had the first service towards goal but the Eagles turned the tables immediately to go up 1-0 in the second minute after Antonio Chavez Borrelli assisted Simon Enstrom's eighth of the season.
To open the second half, BC nearly put another goal away on a nice combination between Trevor Davock and Callum Johnson but Johnson had his point-blank shot saved by Matt Freese and Davock's follow-up shot went wide. A minute later, Davock had another close-range shot saved by Freese.
Harvard tried to find the equalizer but the best opportunity of the match for the visitors – a 78th minute header – met the diving hands of Chavez Borrelli.
BC held the final edge in shots on goal at 9-2 while Chavez Borrelli finished with two saves and Freese had eight for Harvard. Twice in the second half Chavez Borrelli came out on Harvard corner kicks for timely punches to clear the ball. Each team earned six corner kicks.
Boston College returns to action on Friday, traveling to face No. 2 Wake Forest. The conference game will kick off at 7 p.m.
