Head coach Steve Addazio met with the media after practice on Tuesday.
On AJ Dillon's status:
AJ practiced today. Practiced yesterday. He looked really good. I would say, barring anything popping up, I think he'll be ready to roll. It has been a slow, steady process. I think the last two days have been his real matriculation back into normal practice. It was slow yesterday, went a little bit more today and will be full tomorrow. Here's our mindset: we're going to do whatever the medical people tell us we can do. I'm not going to put anybody in harm's way. If the dos clear him and he feels good then we're ready to roll.
Â
On the bye week helping get Dillon back:
We probably wouldn't be having the same conversation if we didn't have that bye week. I had a feeling it would come down to ride about now and that's what it came down to. But he looks great, he really does.
Â
On facing Miami's strong defense:
They've got a great defense and they always have. They're really talented players [on defense], but their whole team is talented. They've got a lot of talent spread across that whole team. We need to play our A-game, we need to have our best players and we need to be firing on all cylinders.
Â
On going up against the Hurricanes' defensive line:
They're talented guys. Those guys are all elite guys. You watch them play, they run, they're physical, they're tough. They're like Zach Allens. We're going to play against a super defense, there's no doubt about that. My concern is that they do get a lot of turnovers because they're talented players. It's a good-looking defense, good looking football team.
Â
On the team they were without Dillon:
I thought we did a good job of trying to reestablish ourselves after we lost a star player. I think we battled ourselves back again and we're hitting our stride a little bit again. Give the credit to our players. We get AJ back and I think he'll continue to improve each week, but hopefully we get back to full strength.
Â
On protecting the football:
Everybody protecting the football, but certainly the guy that handles it the most has to. The one game that we weren't protecting it was the loss out in West Lafayette. That tells you the whole tale. You've got to take care of the football or you don't give yourself a chance to win. If you don't and you've got a team like Miami coming in here, you've got a problem. As much as any team we've played, Miami does a great job of taking the ball away.
Â
On Doug Flutie's 1984 Hail Mary vs. Miami and what his team knows about it:
I remember seeing the play myself, I remember watching on TV. It was a great play. I hope [this game] doesn't come down to that. It's a part of BC history and lore. I bet you they know.
Â
On getting Wyatt Ray from Boca Raton, Florida:
Wyatt's a talented guy. He's been a great player for us and was a hell of a player out of St. Thomas in high school.
