No. 11 Eagles Fall To No. 10 Duke, 2-1

Olivia Vaughn scored her ninth goal of the season.
DURHAM, N.C. - The No. 11 Boston College women's soccer team scored first but could not keep No. 10 Duke off the board in a 2-1 loss at Koskinen Stadium in an ACC match on Sunday. Boston College (13-3-1) is now 5-3-1 with 16 points for fifth place in the ACC. Duke (13-2-2) improved to 7-1-1 in the ACC with 22 points for sole possession of second place in the conference.
The Eagles opened up with a goal in the ninth minute. Sam Coffey picked up the ball and sent a long ball over the Duke defense. After a big bounce, Olivia Vaughn broke in alone on the goalkeeper Brooke Heinsohn. She ripped the shot into the upper 90 for a 1-0 BC lead.
BC's defense held Duke in check until the 33rd minute. Duke's Kayla McCoy placed a ball to the left of BC's goalkeeper Alexis Bryant. MacKenzie Puck ran onto the ball and placed a shot from 10-yards low to the near post for a 1-1 match.
Coffey and Vaughn both had early chances at the start of the second half. Coffey was dropped outside the box to the left of Heinsohn to earn a set piece. The sophomore midfielder placed the shot low and to the right by the defensive wall, but Heinsohn punched the ball wide. Vaughn followed with a shot from 22-yards out that hit the crossbar.
One of BC's best chances came in the 58th minute. Sophomore Jillian Jennings made a smart run up the middle of the field. Elysa Virella found Jennings in the box with a long ball, and her header just went wide of the goal post.
Alexis Bryant kept the game locked at 1-1 after two great opportunities by Duke in the 63rd minute. Bryant made a great save on the first shot by Ella Stevens. Kayla McCoy's second shot just went wide.
In the 75th minute, Jillian Jennings cleared a corner kick from the defensive end. She carried the ball through the midfield and found Coffey to her right. Coffey's shot from 12-yards out just went wide of the goal.
Duke would find the back of the goal in the 84th minute when Kayla McCoy scored for a 2-1 lead. BC managed just one shot wide of the goal in the final six minutes of play.
