Lytle's score in fourth consecutive game not enough to push past Lady Flames
LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The No. 11 Boston College field hockey team suffered a 2-1 upset on the road to No. 19 Liberty Sunday afternoon. Senior captains Lucy Lytle and Frederique Haverhals held the weight for the BC offense as Lytle recorded the lone goal and Haverhals had six shots.
The Lady Flames hopped on the board first and kept the offensive advantage for the remainder of the first half. The Eagles recorded three shots over the first half, two from Haverhals and one from graduate student Brooke Matherson. While the Eagles may have had the number advantage, the ball was found in the Liberty offensive zone for the majority of the opening stanza. Â
The Eagles held the advantage in corner shots, grabbing five to Liberty's one in the first half. BC had the first opportunity seven minutes into the second half but could not capitalize. Just two minutes later, the Lady Flames grabbed a chance of their own and pushed it past Kennedy to gain a 2-0 lead.
Lytle put the Eagles on the board with 16 minutes remaining in regulation. This goal was the fourth consecutive contest where Lytle has recorded the first score for the Eagles.
The Eagles played with an empty net and an extra attacker for the final 50 seconds of the contest, but could not push through the Liberty defense for the equalizer.

- GOAL: BC 2, LU 2; 44:10: Moroni's second came off of a corner shot.
