The field hockey team is on the road to face No. 4 Duke and No. 19 Liberty
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 11 Boston College field hockey team (9-5, 2-3 ACC) is hitting the road for their final full travel weekend of their regular season. The Eagles are set to face conference opponent No. 4 Duke (12-3, 4-1 ACC) on Friday at 6 p.m. before traveling to take on No. 19 Liberty (10-4, 5-0 Big East) for a noon contest on Sunday.
The Eagles are coming off of a split home weekend where they fell, 4-1, to undefeated, top-ranked North Carolina and took down intrastate rival Massachusetts, 6-1. Senior captain Lucy Lytle got the scoring started in both contests, recording the first goal of the evening against North Carolina and pinning the lead just 25 seconds after the starting whistle against Massachusetts. Lytle led five other Eagles to the goal column on the scoresheet as Frederique Haverhals, Elizabeth Warner, Fusine Govaert, Sky Caron and Elizabeth Dennehy each found goals of their own. Freshman goalkeeper Jonna Kennedy recorded seven saves, including a stop on the first penalty stroke that the team has seen all season.
The Blue Devils are coming off of a 1-0 shoot-out win over fellow ACC opponent Louisville. They are led by Rose Tynan who has grabbed 12 of Duke's 50 goals. Following closely behind, Caroline Andretta has found nine goals and Olivia Sahaydak has eight. Goalkeepers Sammi Steele and Lydia Smeltz have only allowed 21 goals to their 50 scored.
Liberty, who suffered a 4-3 overtime loss to Duke back in August, is coming off of a 2-1 win over Georgetown. Agueda Moroni has recorded 20 goals over the season for the Flames, while second-leading Jill Bolton has found 10. Goalkeeper Allison Schaefer has gotten the start all 14 games this season, only allowing 25 goals. They face No. 5 Connecticut before hosting the Eagles on Sunday.
The Eagles will head across town to face Harvard next week for their final road game of the regular season before returning home to host Boston University on Senior Day.
