
Eagles Strike First, Fall to No. 4 Duke

DURHAM, N.C. – The No. 11 Boston College field hockey team scored the first goal of the contest but fell short at No. 4 Duke after a strong offensive effort from the Blue Devils in the final half. The Eagles held an overall shot advantage and pulled twice as many corners as Duke despite the setback.
Senior captain Lucy Lytle earned the first goal of the contest for the third consecutive game in the 16thminutes. After three consecutive corner chances, Lytle capitalized pushing straight through the Duke defense.
In the 55thminute, the Blue Devils found the equalizer from Erin Scherrer. Scherrer tapped in the ball while Kennedy was out of the cage.To take the lead, Haley Schleicher shot straight to the back of the cage on a penalty stroke goal.
Both teams' goalkeepers each recorded five saves. The Eagles led overall in shots, 13-11.Â
Duke jumps to 13-3 overall and 5-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference play while the Eagles bump to 9-6 and 2-4.Â
