Strong Second Half Sends Eagles Past Sacred Heart

Boston College moves to 3-0 on the season
How It Happened:
Sacred Heart led by eight early on - at 13-5 with just under four minutes into the ballgame - before two Deontae Hawkins 3-pointers began an 8-0 run for Boston College, tying the game at 13-13.  The Pioneers responded, going back up by eight  - at 25-17 with 8:04 left in the half but another BC scoring run - this time an 11-5 push, trimmed the deficit to one.  SHU would lead, 31-30, at the break.
ÂThe Eagles took the lead for good early in the second half, opening the period with a 12-2 run, thanks to two 3-pointers from Ky Bowman and four points from Steffon Mitchell. Â BC led by as many as 25 and would go onto win, 73-53, to move to 3-0 on the season.

Hawkins finished the game with team-high 22 points, while also recording eight rebounds. He connected on 8-of-15 from the floor including 3-3 from beyond the arc. The Dayton, Ohio native was also a perfect 3-for-3 from the free throw line.

Mitchell came off the bench to score 13 points and pull down a team-high nine rebounds. He was 4-of-5 from the floor in 30 minutes of action.

Bowman finished the game with 14 points, four rebounds, and a season-high seven assists.

Nik Popovic chipped in with seven points and two rebounds on the night.

Despite a rare off-night shooting, Jerome Robinson added six rebounds and four assists to go with four points.

The Eagles took care of the ball, committing just five turnovers on the night - the lowest single-game total since committing five turnovers at Georgia Tech on Feb. 13, 2014. Â Three of the five turnovers came in the final three minutes of the contest.

For the first time this season, Boston College was outrebounded. Â Sacred Heart won the battle on the glass, 51-38 - including a 14-10 edge on the offensive glass.

Mitchell's nine rebounds were a career-high. He topped his previous career-high of seven last time out against South Carolina State.

20 - The Eagles defense forced 20 turnovers on the night - the most turnovers forced in a single-game since last year's matchup against Sacred Heart on Dec. 18, 2016. Â BC forced SHU into 21 turns that night.
