Regular Season Wraps Up Friday at NC State

Eagles will hit the road for their final ACC game of the year
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College men's soccer team hits the road on Friday, Oct. 27, when the Eagles wrap up the 2017 regular season at No. 22 NC State. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., and the game will be streamed line on ACC Network Extra, which is accessible via WatchESPN.com or the ESPN app.
Boston College (6-9-0, 1-6-0 ACC) comes into Friday's game looking to regain the momentum the team had through the first half of last week's game against No. 2 Wake Forest. BC entered that game on a three-game winning streak and held the edge in play – and shots – against the nation's top offense through 44:54 of the first half.
However, the Deamon Decons scored against the run of play with just six seconds left in the first half and built their lead in a second half filled littered with cards, which totaled 10 in the game including eight (seven yellows, one red) on the Eagles. The 4-0 win earned Wake the ACC regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the ACC Championship.
While NC State (8-4-0, 3-3-1 ACC) saw their non-conference game against South Caroline on Tuesday cancelled because of weather, the Wolfpack jumped into the national rankings this week after last Saturday's 3-2 win at then-No. 5 Louisville. NC State is undefeated in its last six games, going 4-0-2 since the start of October.
'Pack freshman Manny Perez was tabbed national player of the week after a stand-out performance in the upset win over the Cards, factoring on all three goals – including scoring the game-winning strike. He leads NC State in points with 14 (5 goals, 4 assists), while junior Tannar Roberts sits second on the squad with 10 points (4 goals, 2 assists). In goal, Leon Krapf has started all 15 games, posting a 1.08 GAA and a .691 save percentage with six shutouts.
After being shown a straight red card last Saturday, BC captain Henry Balf will be unavailable on Friday. However, another Eagle returned to action in that game. Redshirt junior and co-captain Len Zeugner played his first minutes since Sept. 19, seeing 42 minutes against Wake. Zeugner initially returned from an injury that kept him out of the entire 2016 season on Sept. 8 against Notre Dame. However, he suffered an ankle injury just minutes into that game and, after playing all or parts of the next two games, effects of the injury kept him sidelined for seven games spanning a month.
BC and NC State met for the first time in 2004 – a year before the Eagles joined the ACC. The Eagles lead the all-time series, 7-5-2, which includes a 5-0-2 mark in Newton and a 2-4-0 record in Raleigh.
The teams' first meeting came in 2004, a non-conference game in Newton a year before the Eagles joined the ACC. In ACC regular-season play, the Eagles lead the series 7-4-1. The last three meetings between the teams have gone to at least one overtime, including BC's 5-4 OT win last year in Newton that featured a Trevor Davock hat trick.
Following Friday's game, the Eagles will enter the ACC Championship, playing next Wednesday on the road against an opponent to be determined after Friday's slate of games.
