The media and fans alike count down the days until Aer Lingus Game
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.— As September inches closer and closer, there are many things going on Boston College's campus. Students are moving in, classes are starting, and college football is less than a week away from kicking off!
This Saturday will finally mark the season opener for the Eagles as they take on Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland. With such a unique season opener, the Aer Lingus College Football Classic is making waves through the media both stateside and on the Emerald Isle.
Outside of the game itself, Dublin will be a hive of activity in the buildup to the big day. Local and traveling fans will also get to experience numerous events leading up to the game as well including pep rallies, marching bands and more.
The game has also drawn the attention of the Boston College Chief Executives Club as they will head overseas for the time in its 24 year history to root on the Eagles.
Ireland aside, many fans are just excited to see another season of football start. Following a tough, injury plagued season. The Eagles are ready to bounce back including sophomore defensive back Taj-Amir Torres who is looking to expand his role this season.
"We have a great strength program. They work us every day. I got a lot stronger, a lot faster. Those guys push me and I've come further along."
Along with Torres, graduate quarterback Patrick Towles is looking to get a new start after leaving the University of Kentucky and is still competing for his spot as the starter.
"Coming here was kind of a culture shock. It was kind of an opportunity to get kind of a fresh start, kind of get away and really rely on myself for a little bit, just kind of get out of the bubble and put you on your own, makes you fend for yourself a little bit."
Defense was key for the Eagles last season and the linebacker core is looking to continue to assist the No.1 unit in the nation again, however, the offense is also looking to step up this year featuring a wide receiver group that is hungry to put up points this season.
