The junior returns as BC’s starting center
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College junior Jon Baker earned a spot on the 2016 Rimington Trophy Watch List, the Boomer Esiason Foundation announced on Wednesday. The award is presented annually to the nation's premier center.
Â
Baker started all 12 games last season, including nine at center for the Eagles. He also played in 10 games as a true freshman on the offensive line in 2014. The Millis, Mass., native earned a spot on the 2015 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Honor Roll.  He helped BC registered more than 300 yards of total offense five times in 2015 and was part of an offensive line that did not allow a sack in two games and just one three times.  In his freshman campaign, he played in a season-high 24 snaps against Colorado State, helping the Eagles rush for 239 yards and three touchdowns. He is a two-time recipient of the Athletics Director's Award for Academic Achievement.
Â
Rimington Trophy finalists will be announced on Dec. 5. The trophy committee uses these three prestigious All-American teams to determine a winner: Walter Camp Foundation, Sporting News and Football Writers Association of America. The winner will be recognized at the Rimington Trophy Presentation at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Neb., on Jan. 14, 2017.
Â
Baker is one of 11 players from the ACC on the watch list. In 2014, former BC center Andy Gallik was a finalist for the award.
