Sarah Mannelly and Kenzie Kent named to First and Second Team All-ACC prior to ACC Championships
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - Boston College senior captain Sarah Mannelly and sophomore Kenzie Kent were among the 24 players from across the Atlantic Coast Conference to be named to one of the two All-ACC Teams, as announced by the conference on Wednesday.
Mannelly, a midfielder from New Canaan, Conn., garnered All-ACC First Team accolades while Kent, of Norwell, Mass., was named to the All-ACC Second Team. This marks the third straight year that Mannelly was recognized by the conference for her performance while Kent's nod is the first for the midfielder.Â
Both are in midst of impressive seasons for the Eagles. Through 17 games, Mannelly has matched her previous season high of 67 points, set during her junior campaign, courtesy of 36 goals and 31 assists, while Kent has registered 32 points on 16 goals and 16 assists in only eight games this season. Both were named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List for the country's best female lacrosse player earlier this season. Â
In her second season as a team captain, Mannelly has found her way into the top three of both the Boston College all-time points list (248) and all-time goals list (171) while she sits in fourth in the all-time assists record (77) and seventh on the program's all-time draw control list (107). Entering the ACC Championship tournament, the midfielder's 67 point season ties her own BC record for eighth most points in a single season all-time. Her 31 assists are the most by any conference player this season and 11th most in the country while her 3.94 points per game is the third highest total in the ACC.
Kent, in only eight games, has the fifth most points on the team at the end of regular season play for the Eagles. After seeing her women's ice hockey team fall in the women's national championship game to Minnesota, the midfielder switched out her skates for a pair of cleats and joined the Eagles on the lacrosse field for their game against North Carolina six days later, a game in which she had a team-high four points (2G, 2A) in a comeback effort that fell just short against the then No. 3 Tar Heels. In the team's first ever win over Dartmouth, Kenzie recorded 10 points on five goals and five assists, the most by an ACC player this season to date, and the second most in program history. She followed up that performance a week later by registering six assists in a seven point effort at Harvard, which placed her in a tie for the second most assists all-time in the program's record book.
The Eagles duo represent two of the 24 players from across the conference to be honored with either first or second team accolades. North Carolina led with six selections, followed by Notre Dame (5), Duke (4), Virginia (3), while Boston College, Louisville and Syracuse each had two.
The Eagles take on Syracuse in the quarterfinals of the ACC Championship on Thursday, April 28, at 5 pm at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Va.Â
