BC heads to No. 15 Virginia looking for second conference win of season
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass -Â After a heartbreaking loss to No. 3 North Carolina this past weekend, the Eagles are back to the gridiron this Saturday when they travel to Charlottesville, Va. to take on UVA in another highly contested conference match. Virginia, ranked 15th in the IWLCA polls, is seeking it's first conference win of the season.Â

GAME NOTES
- The maroon and gold moved up two spots in this week's IWLCA poll to No. 10 while they saw a surge of three spots to No. 8 in the Nike/Lax Magazine Poll after their comeback effort vs. UNC fell just short. BC fell two spots in the Inside Lacrosse poll. Nine BC opponents remain ranked in the top-20 of both the IWLCA and LM polls this week, including six ACC opponents. The nine opponents now listed in the top-20 continue to be the most this season.Â
- In the latest statistics, BC finds itself in the middle of the pack in several conference categories. They are fifth in assists per game (4.60), draw controls per game (13.20) and ground balls per game (15.90). They remain fourth in points per game (16.70) while they continue to improve on turnovers, now with the third lowest number of turnovers in the league (13.10) and have the fourth best scoring offense with an average of 12.10 goals per game. Entering the week, Molly Erdle is fourth in the ACC and 21st in the nation for caused turnovers (2.00/game) while Zoe Ochoa's 9.08 goals against average is fifth best. Sarah Mannelly is sixth in the ACC in assists (14)while her 34 points are 10th best amongst ACC players.
- Virginia enters the week holding a 5-6 overall record, while the Cavaliers are still seeking its first conference win of the season, after four attempts against Syracuse, UNC, Notre Dame and Duke. Mary Alati's 2.18 ground balls per game is fifth best in conference while GK Rachel Vander Kolk 8 saves/game is second best.Â
- Boston College is seeking its third win in 15 tries against Virginia this weekend, and its first win since 2013. BC is 2-12 all-time against the CavaliersÂ
- After making six saves against Syracuse, junior GK Zoe Ochoa is only two saves shy of 200 career stops. She would become the ninth goaltender in program history to achieve that total. Â Sarah Mannelly is one goal shy of sole possession for fifth place on the BC all-time goals list and four points shy of fifth place on the BC all-time points list. Caroline Margolis will move into sole possession of sixth place on the career assists list with her next helper.Â
- In the Eagle's victory over Syracuse on March 26, the team earned its second ever win over the Orange, all while holding the No. 3 Orange to a season low eight goals. With two goals, Kate Weeks tallied two goals and bumped her season total to 13, which matched her total from her freshman and sophomore years combined. She, along with Sam Apuzzo and Sarah Mannelly, lead the team in most multi-goal games with five. Following the victory, Sarah Mannelly and Dempsey Arsenault were named ACC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively. Mannelly also netted Epoch/LaxMag Player of the Week honors and Sam Apuzzo was named Inside Lacrosse National Rookie of the Week. With three assists, Caroline Margolis moved into a tie for sixth place in career assists, tying Kristin Igoe (2008-12) with 50 career helpers.
LAST TIME OUT
- After falling down 6-0 in the early minutes of Saturday's contest against North Carolina, BC staged a comeback that saw the Eagles bring the score within one two different times before ultimately falling, 13-12, to the Tar Heels. Kenzie Kent, in her first game back this season, recorded a team high four points (2 G, 2 A) while Caroline Margolis and Kate Weeks each recorded three goals apiece.
NEXT UP
- Boston College remains on the road for the next two games after Virginia, with a non-conference game against Yale on April 6 before heading to Durham, NC to take on Duke on April 9. The maroon and gold return to Newton Campus on April 12 vs. Dartmouth at 4 pm.Â
