GAME 1
BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior Tatiana Cortez went 3-of-4 with a solo home run and three runs scored. The homer is her team-best eighth of the season.
TURNING POINT
- Virginia Tech collected five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning that proved to be the difference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles struck first in the top of the first, as a sacrifice fly by sophomore Chloe Sharabba plated senior Megan Cooley for the game's opening run.
- The Hokies didn't wait long to answer back, scoring three times in the bottom half of the inning. Katey Smith and Lauren Duff drove in a pair of runs with the third coming via a passed ball.
- Boston College would retake the lead with three in the second, as Cortez and freshman Allyson Moore both scored on a wild pitches. Freshman Carly Severini would also bring home a run, singling to score freshman Loren DiEmmanuele.
- The Eagles would extend their lead in the top of the third, as Cortez lifted one over the center field fence with nobody on.
- Boston College would make it 6-3 when sophomore Jordan Chimento drew a walk with the bases loaded in the fourth.
- Following two singles and a batter hit by pitch, Virginia Tech had the bases loaded with nobody out. Olivia Lattin drew a walk to bring in the first run while a Katey Smith double drove in another two. Duff would also lace a double down the left field line to plate another two to stake the Hokies to an 8-6 lead.
- The Eagles got one back in the seventh when sophomore Annie Murphy doubled to bring home Cortez.
GAME 2
BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior Tatiana Cortez went 2-of-2 with a double and a run scored. She finshed the day 5-of-6 with a home run, two doubles, one RBI and four runs scored.
- Freshman Loren DiEmmanuele picked up her team-leading 13th stolen base of the season.
TURNING POINT
- Virginia Tech got out to an 8-0 lead after three innings and never looked back.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hokies opened the scoring on a Vanessa Gonzalez single that plated Lauren Duff. With two outs in the inning, Caitlyn Nolan sent one over the left field fence with two runners on to give Virginia Tech a 4-0 lead after two.
- Virginia Tech would add four more in the third as singles from Emma Strouth, Olivia Lattin, and Katey Smith all scored runs. Strouth would later score off of a fielder's choice.
- The Eagles would get on the board when freshman Carly Severini grounded out, scoring sophomore Chloe Sharabba. Senior Megan Cooley would add another, doubling down the left field line to score DiEmmanuele.
- The Hokies would tack on three more in the bottom half of the inning as Breanna Davenport launched a three-run shot to center field.
- Boston College picked up one run in the fifth as a groundout from sophomore Jordan Chimento brought home Cortez.
