BC HIGHLIGHTS

Freshman right-handed starter Jacob Stevens allowed just two hits, walked five and struck out five over 4.2 innings. He has yet to give up an earned run in his 22.2 career innings.
Junior right-handed reliever Justin Dunn went 3.1 of scoreless relief to earn the victory, allowing just one hit, walking three and striking out two.
Redshirt sophomore RHP Bobby Skogsbergh picked up his first career save by throwing to the final batter of the game and forcing a groundout.
BC pitchers allowed just two hits through the first seven innings.

KEY PLAYS

The Eagles scored the only run of the game with patience at the plate, drawing four walks in the sixth off two different State pitchers.
Meanwhile, BC pitchers kept State off the board for the fourth shutout of the season, as the Eagles used four pitchers in the ninth and worked matchups to get the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In a pitchers' duel, it took until the sixth inning for a team to score a run. The Eagles got on the board, notching the only run of the game in the top of the inning. Patience at the plate paid off as starter RHP Johnny Piedmonte walked two and reliever RHP Kyle Smith walked two more, including junior Nick Sciortino, which plated the first run of the game. Dunn returned to the mound after retiring the final batter of the fifth and tallied a 123 inning, including a strikeout.
Dunn worked out of jams in the seventh and eighth, to keep the Pack scoreless. In the seventh, he put runners on first and second with one out on walk and then forced an infield fly and a chopper back to the mound, which he took to the bag himself to end the inning. In the eighth, he walked the leadoff before he got a strikeout for the first out and then allowed a single to put the winning run on. Dunn forced a 643 double play to get out of the jam.
Sophomore Donovan Casey came on to pitch the ninth but loaded the bases on two singles and a walk. Senior John Nicklas entered and got a shallow fly ball for the first out, which Casey, who had moved back to right, fired into the infield to avoid the tag up. Freshman left-hander Dan Metzdorf entered to face lefty Preston Palmeiro and got him to pop up for an infield fly for the second out. Skogsbergh finished off the Pack with a grounder to third to seal the Eagles' victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

The last time the Eagles won their opening conference was in 2009 when they took two of three at sixth-ranked Florida State.
BC improved to 11-22 in the all-time series. The Eagles have won five of the last eight games against the Wolfpack and four of the last six in Raleigh. It was the second time BC took the series in Wolfpack territory in as many years, as they also won two of three in 2014.
The BC pitching staff did not allow NC State to score a run for the second time in the three-game set as it blanked the Wolfpack, 7-0, on Friday.
The Eagles did not make an error for the eighth time in 2016.
Senior Joe Cronin saw his eight-game hit streak and 14-game on-base streak come to an end. In that span of the eight games, he recorded 14 hits, five runs and 12 RBIs.
