Westphal Enters Her Second Straight NCAA Indoor Championship

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.—Graduate student Liv Westphal enters her second straight NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship tomorrow. She will be competing in the 5000 meters, having run her best time (15:45.48) of the season at the Boston University Opener in December.

Westphal's qualifying time was the seventh fastest time in the nation this year. She will face off against the nation's best, including Notre Dame's Molly Seidel, who enters the event as the top qualifier with a time of 15:19.64.

During last year's indoor championship, Westphal finished ninth, crossing the line at 16:00.56. She was later named a Second-Team All-American. Liv then went on to compete in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship, where she finished eighth and earned the designation of All-American.

Westphal currently holds the record at BC in the 5000 for both indoor and outdoor. She also holds the indoor French national record for the event.

The women's 5000-meter event is scheduled for 8:25 pm Friday. Coverage of the event will begin at 6:30 pm on WatchESPN.
