Segalla and Wims Earn Regional USTFCCCA Honors

Segalla named Northeast Women's Track Athlete of the Year, Wims tabbed Northeast Women's Track Assistant Coach of the Year
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year for the 2026 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field season were announced on Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA); with Sydney Segalla earning Northeast Women's Track Athlete of the Year and Jerod Wims tabbing Northeast Women's Track Assistant Coach of the Year honors.
Following a personal best time in the 400m semifinals of 50.31, which was also a PR and set an ACC record, Segalla finished fifth overall at the NCAA Track and Field Championships with a time of 50.48 in the 400m final. Segalla became the first All-American in the event in nearly 40 years for Boston College, joining Janice Reed as the only Eagles to run at the NCAA Championships in the 400m. During the regular season, Segalla won the 400m at the ACC Championships, sweeping the conference 400m hardware after winning gold in the event during the indoor campaign.
Wims coached Segalla to a fifth-place finish in the 400 meters at the NCAA DI Outdoor Championships, where she set an ACC record of 50.31. Segalla also ran on the Boston College 4×400 squad, which reached the NCAA East First Rounds for the first time in program history with a time of 3:33.35.Each of the nine regions – Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Mountain, Northeast, South, South Central, Southeast and West – honored both gender's top track athletes and field athletes as well as the top men's and women's head coaches and assistant coaches.
Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches following the conclusion of the 2026 NCAA DI Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Performances from both the NCAA Championships and the regular season were considered. Only those individuals from USTFCCCA member programs are eligible for awards.
