BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Senior Logan Hoggarth belted his first career home run in spectacular fashion – as a grand slam – and extended his career-long hit streak to 11 games, which is tied for 11th in BC record books (dating back to 2005). He also recorded a career-high five RBIs.
- Freshman right-hander Thomas Lane made his collegiate debut on the mound, throwing five scoreless, allowing just two hits, two walks and recording his first two career strikeouts.
- Sophomore Donovan Casey led the Eagles on the day with three hits on a 3-for-4 day, scoring three runs driving in another. He extended his career-long hit streak to nine games.
- Senior Gabriel Hernandez launched his first home run of the season and third of his career.
KEY PLAYS
- BC scored two runs in the second and never looked back, adding four in the third and seven in the fourth.
- The outstanding pitching continued as the Eagles did not allow a run for the second time in the series.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles scored two to get on the board in the second. Casey laid down a bunt single and senior Joe Cronin followed with a base hit through the right side. Right fielder Jason Gasser misplayed the ball, allowing Casey to score and Cronin to land on third. With one down, Hoggarth brought Cronin home with a groundout to second.
- BC tacked on four in the third, chasing starter Ryan Olson from the game. The Eagles loaded the bases on a single, double and walk and Casey drove in one with a single to right. Cronin plated two more with a base hit down the left-field line before Olson was pulled for Kevin Jones. A double steal and walk reloaded the bases for junior Nick Sciortino, who brought home another on a sac fly.
- A seven-run fourth put the game away for the Eagles. Junior Michael Strem plated sophomore Jake Palomaki, who walked and stole second. With the bases loaded and two down, Hoggarth launched one over the left-field fence for a grand slam. New pitcher left-hander Jon Savarise entered the game and walked Sciortino on four pitches before Hernandez went yard to left to increase the BC lead to 13-0.
- BC added one in the fifth as junior Johnny Adams led off with a double, moved to third on an error and scored on a double play ball to second.
- The Eagles added two more in the sixth to make it 16-0 as they loaded the bases on three walks. Pinch-hitting sophomore Anthony Maselli drove the first of the inning in with a single through the right side and classmate Scott Braren, also in a pinch-hitting role, plate the next with a grounder to first.
- Sophomore Mitch Bigras drove in the Eagles' final run in the ninth off righty Donovin Sims. Pinch hitter senior Stephen Sauter led off with a single and moved to second on a groundout. Bigras singled through the right side for the Eagles' 17th run of the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles start the season 4-0 for the first time since 2009.
- The BC starters did not give up a run in the first four games of the 2016 season. In fact, the BC pitching staff only allowed two to start the year.
- The last time the Eagles recorded 15 or more runs was on May 13, 2012 when they put up 15 against Fordham.
- The last time BC recorded at least 15 hits was when they tallied 17 against Maine on May 12 last season.
- Freshman Jake Alu recorded his first appearance as a pinch hitter and drew two walks on an 0-for-1 day.
- Redshirt sophomore RHP Bobby Skogsbergh returned to action for the first time since March 24, 2015 as an injury sidelined him after only three appearances last season. He retired the side in order in the eighth.
- Freshmen lefty Zach Stromberg and righty Jack Nelson saw their first time on the mound in the Maroon and Gold. Both allowed just one hit while Nelson recorded his first career K.
