HOW IT HAPPENED
- Penn State's balanced scoring gave the Nittany Lions a 13-8 lead in the first quarter.
- Boston College stormed back with a 16-0 run, taking a 22-13 lead with 8:52 left in the second quarter. Mariella Fasoula scored three straight lay ups early in the stretch. Kelly Hughes continued BC's momentum during the run with eight unanswered points, including two three-pointers and two free throws.
- Penn State ended the half on a 12-4 run, which included eight points from Teniya Page. BC held on to a one point lead at the half, 31-30.
- The Nittany Lions brought their momentum to the second half, taking a 41-33 lead with 5:22 left in the third quarter.
- Boston College countered with a 6-0 stretch early in the fourth quarter. Hughes converted a layup to shrink Penn State's lead to 47-45 with 6:19 left in the game.
- Penn State later held a 51-47 lead. But consecutive lay ups from Georgia Pineau and Fasoula tied the game at 51-51 with 2:34 remaining.
- Following a free throw from Page, Fasoula took advantage of Penn State's heavy perimeter defense. Pineau hit the Eagles center for a wide-open layup. She got fouled on the play and sunk the free throw to give the Eagles a 54-52 lead with 1:05 left in the game.
- Penn State took advantage of late foul shots, scoring its last four points from the charity stripe.
