Scouting the Ramblin' Wreck
- Georgia Tech comes into the weekend after taking two-of-three from Virginia at home last weekend. The Yellow Jackets' midweek contest against Georgia was postponed.
- The Tech offense, which boasts a .287 batting average, ranks fourth in the ACC while the team's 4.28 ERA sits just above BC in 11th.
- The Jackets are one of only two teams that ranks about BC in fielding percentage (.976 ). Notre Dame leads the league with a .979 clip.
- Sunday starter Brandon Gold ranks 16th in the league with his 2.89 ERA while closer Zac Ryan is tied for fourth with seven saves. He leads the Tech staff with a 2.36 ERA.
- First baseman/catcher AJ Murray is tied for fourth in the ACC with 13 doubles and for eighth with 34 RBIs.
- In ACC action this season, Georgia Tech won series at Virginia Tech, at Duke and against Notre Dame. The Jackets were swept by Louisville and took one win from North Carolina.
THE SERIES
- The Yellow Jackets have the 16-7 all-time series advantage over the Eagles and have won the last four meetings.
- The two teams last played in 2013, when the Ramblin' Wreck completed a three-game sweep in Atlanta the second week of the ACC season.
- BC holds a 5-7 home record against Tech. In 2012, the Eagles took two-of-three at The Heights, complete with a walk-off win as senior Blake Butera singled with the bases loaded to give BC the series win.
- Those two wins marked the only two under fifth-year head coach Mike Gambino against the Jackets, as BC also was swept in 2011.
WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THE EAGLES
- The Eagles complete an eight-game home stand with a three-game series with Georgia Tech. BC will host its Fourth Annual ALS Awareness Game on Saturday in honor of former Eagles and director of baseball operations Pete Frates (2004-07), who was diagnosed with ALS in 2012.
- Boston College's outfield is tied for seventh in the nation in outfield assists with 12. No other ACC team has 10 outfield assists. Freshman Donovan Casey leads the way with three outfield assists.
- Boston College is 9-3 at home after playing the first 17 games on the road.
- BC's .973 fielding percentage is third in the league and the Eagles' 37 errors are the third-least in the conference.
- Sophomore Michael Strem continues to be a doubles machine as 15 of his 43 hits are doubles, which is tied for the ACC lead. He is tied for 35th in the nation and leads the conference with 0.42 doubles per game.
- Junior Logan Hoggarth went 7-for-10 in the series against Clemson. He has tallied at least one hit in six of the last eight BC games.
- Freshman Jake Palomaki has reached base at least once in the 19 games. He has drawn at least one walk in seven of the last nine games and leads the team with 28, which is tied for eighth in the ACC.
- Sophomore RHP Justin Dunn leads the Eagles with four victories and four saves. His three saves in the ACC is tied for fourth. He has tied a career-high with five strikeouts three times in 2015: at USC Upstate (2/14), at Florida State (3/8) and at Wake Forest (4/5).
- Sophomore Nick Sciortino has picked off two runners and thrown three out in the last four games played. He is also riding a four-game hit streak and has recorded at least one hit in 10 of the last 13 games played, including six doubles.
- Freshman Anthony Maselli has reached base in all five games he has played in and tallied a hit in the last three. His first career hit was a grand slam at Northeastern on March 24. He's racked up three hits, including a double and home run, three runs, six RBIs and three walks.
- Senior Blake Butera reached the 100 mark for career walks, which broke BC all-time record. He is currently tied for fourth among ACC active leaders with 104 career walks. His 710 career at bats ranks fourth, while his 187 career starts is fourth and his 189 games played is sixth.
- Senior RHP John Gorman has recorded 172 career strikeouts, which is tied for ninth all-time. His 28 career starts is tied for 10th.
- Junior Chris Shaw will be out 3-6 weeks after sustaining a fractured hamate bone in his hand. He was on a 15-game hitting streak, racking up 28 hits, including seven doubles and seven home runs, 15 runs, 22 RBIs and eight walks.
