Newton, Mass. -- #2 Boston College women's lacrosse (10-1, 4-1 ACC) dropped its first contest of the season to #5 Virginia (8-4, 2-2 ACC), 15-13, Saturday afternoon at the Newton Sports Complex.

BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior midfielder Sarah Mannelly (13) and senior midfielder Mikaela Rix (12) combined for 25 of the Eagles' 41 shots on goal.
- Mannelly, with four goals and one assist, and Rix, with five goals, led the team with their five points each.
- Four of Mannelly's five points came in the second half to help the Eagles battle back against Virginia.
TURNING POINTS
- Virginia jumped out to a 6-0 lead to start the game.
- Two goals each from Mikaela Rix and Covie Stanwick, along with one apiece from Caroline Margolis, Sarah Mannelly, and Tess Chandler sent the Eagles into the half down just one to UVA.
- Virginia's three goal run midway through the second half put the game out of reach for the Eagles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Boston College trailed 6-0 with 15:57 left in the first half, but came storming back to close the deficit.
- The Eagles' first goal came with 12:10 to go in the opening frame on senior attacker Covie Stanwick's 29th goal of the season.
- BC battled back with six more goals in the first half to pull within one of the Cavaliers, trailing UVA, 8-7, heading into halftime.
- The Eagles and Cavs traded goals to start the second stanza.
- Virginia then went on a three-goal run (Casey Bocklet, Kelly Boyd, Kelly Reese) to pull away and increase the UVA lead to 15-10 with 12:35 to play.
- BC countered with three goals of its own (Sarah Mannelly, Mikaela Rix, Mikaela Rix) in the final minutes of play, but could not overcome the Virginia lead.
