BOSTON COLLEGE vs. RPI
Boston College continues its opening weekend series on the road in Troy, N.Y., as the Eagles make their first trip to Houston Field House since Jan. 2, 1995. The Eagles have actually lost their last three outings at Rensselaer (Jan. 2, 1995 - 2-7 // Nov. 25, 1990 - 4-5 // Feb. 19, 1983 - 4-5) but hold the overall series record advantage, 20-14-1. BC and RPI squared off regularly from the 1950s through the 1980s and just recently opened the Eagles' 2013-14 season at home in which BC prevailed, 6-2, but it was the first meeting between the two teams since Jan 14. 1997 (Win, 3-2). Coach York is 2-1 against RPI at the helm of the Eagles' program while RPI skipper, Seth Appert, is 0-1. Boston College, all-time when playing in Troy, N.Y., is 6-9.
TECH TALK
Rensselaer recently opened its 2015-16 season against Hockey East opponent UMass Lowell on the road and was shutout, 3-0, on Friday, Oct. 9. RPI's loss to UMass Lowell was the Engineers' first opening night loss since the 2011-12 season. RPI was outshot by the River Hawks, 38-27, as two of three UMass Lowell tallies were scored on the power play. Senior goaltender Jason Kasdorf's 35 saves were the most since March 6, 2015, when he made 36 at Clarkson. Last season, RPI went 12-26-3 overall, including an 8-12-2 mark in ECAC Hockey play. The Engineers won a best-of-three playoff series at Clarkson, two games to one, before bowing out to St. Lawrence in the conference quarterfinals. RPI sports some strong returners as sophomore Drew Melanson led the Engineers with 20 points last season, on nine goals and 11 assists. Senior Milos Bubela (8 goals, 7 assists) had 15 points, while classmate Mark Miller (7 goals, 7 assists) had 14 points. Sunday's matinee marks the second-straight season RPI played against the No. 1-ranked team in the nation in its opening weekend.
