Softball Explodes for 19 Runs at Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. – The BC softball team exploded for its highest offensive output since 2010 with a 19-6 win at Dartmouth on Wednesday. The Eagles last recorded 19+ runs with a 19-0 win over Southern on Feb. 21, 2010. The second game of the doubleheader was called due to darkness in the third inning – BC was holding an 11-0 lead at the time.
All nine members of the lineup recorded at least one RBI – including Maria Pandolfo’s five runs batted in and Ronnie Mae Ayers’ first collegiate homer – a grand slam in the fourth inning.
Chelsea Dimon went the distance for the Eagles – allowing four earned runs on nine hits over five innings to improve to 8-9 this season. Rachel Hein took the loss for the Big Green – allowing six earned runs on four hits over 1.2 innings to drop to 0-2 this season.
BC grabbed an early 4-0 lead in the first on the strength of RBI hits from Alana Dimaso (3-4, 2 RBI), Jessie Daulton (1-2, RBI), and Pandolfo (3-3, HR, 5 RBI). Dimon and Pandolfo hit back-to-back homers in the third to give the Eagles an 8-2 lead.
Holding an 8-6 lead in the fourth, BC seized control by plating 11 unanswered runs en route to the five inning win. Led by Ayers’ grand slam – BC tacked on with six runs in the fourth and five in the fifth to secure the 19-6 victory at the Dartmouth Softball Park.
Tory Speer (2-3, 2 RBI) and Megan Cooley (2-3, RBI) also recorded multi-hit games. Kristen Rumley led the way for the Big Green with three hits and an RBI.
The Eagles will host the Maine Black Bears on Thursday at Shea Field – first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
