CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Grad student Kristin Igoe, senior Brittany Wilton and senior Sam Taylor have been named captains of the Boston College lacrosse team for the 2012 season, according to an announcement made by Head Coach Bowen Holden on Friday.
"Kristin, Sam & Brittany are well deserving of this honor to lead our 2012 squad," Holden said. "The three of them have varying leadership qualities and strengths that together make them a powerful combination. I know they will do an exceptional job, and they have the strength of the entire senior class supporting them. It is exciting to think about where this 2012 team will go."
Igoe started all 19 games for the Eagles in 2011. As a senior, she led the team in goals (44), points (62) and caused turnovers (33). She earned both IWLCA and WomensLax.com All-America First-Team honors. In addition, Igoe was named to the 2011 ACC All-Tournament team, as well as the 2011 All-ACC Team and the All-ACC Academic Team. She also received the BC Athletics Director's Award for Academic Achievement. Igoe, who had a very successful career as an undergrad, is currently sixth in goals (119) and total points (158) on BC's all-time records list, and looks to move up further on those lists this season.
Wilton started all 19 games last season on her way to finishing second on the team in goals with 42, points with 88 and third in assists with 16. She joined the BC 100-point club at the end of the 2011 season and current sits at 102 for her career total. In addition, her team leading 99 draw controls put her in first place on the single-season record list and gave her the second-most nationwide. The Garden City, N.Y. native scored in 16 of the 19 games in 2011, tallying at least two goals in 14 games. She was named to the All-ACC Team at the end of last season.
Taylor also started all 19 games in 2011. During the season, she tallied 20 goals and had five assists. In addition, she grabbed 15 ground balls, had 11 draw controls and caused six turnovers. The midfielder from Topsfield, Mass. scored at least one goal in 16 of the 19 games last season.
The Eagles will open their 2011 fall exhibition schedule on Sunday, Oct. 2 with an all-day tournament hosted by Harvard. BC will face New Hampshire, Harvard and Syracuse at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
