The Boston College Athletics Department has unveiled a gold "Beat Cancer" T-shirt featuring an image of the school's official mascot, Baldwin the Eagle, with his face painted in a similar fashion to linebacker Mark Herzlich.
BC has partnered with Banner '47, a local apparel company and licensee of Boston College, to design and manufacture the shirt. BC will donate $5 from the sale of every Beat Cancer T-shirt to the American Cancer Society in support of Ewing's sarcoma research.
Herzlich, the Eagles' star senior linebacker, disclosed earlier this year that he is suffering from the rare disease and will miss the 2009 season while undergoing treatment. BC will encourage all fans to wear this shirt (or another gold shirt) to the October 3 game vs. Florida State as a show of unity and support for Herzlich and others in their battles to beat cancer.
The shirts are available for purchase at $20 each on the official BC Athletics website, www.bceagles.com, and will also be available at the BC Bookstore and on game days at the Alumni Stadium souvenir stands.

After moving into their dorm rooms Thursday afternoon, the Eagles practiced Friday afternoon and will go again Saturday and Sunday as they begin preparations for their first opponent, Northeastern. Tickets for that game are available online or by calling the BC ticket office at 617-552-GoBC.
Coach Frank Spaziani will release the official depth chart for the Northeastern game on Sunday afternoon.
