Lacrosse Drops 19-12 Decision to Fairfield

West Palm Beach, FL - The Boston College women's lacrosse team dropped a 19-12 decision to Fairfield University on Wednesday afternoon for their first loss of the season.
Entering the game, the Eagles stood a an undefeated 3-0 and the Stags with a 3-1 overall record.
The teams traded early goals with Fairfield netting the opening tally. The Stags jumped out to an early 3-1 lead before Lauren Costello tallied her first goal of the game to cut the lead to 3-2. Fairfield tallied five straight, before Costello and Kristin Igoe put up back-to-back goals to make it 8-4. The Stags tallied two more goals in the frame to lead 10-4 at the half.
The Eagles captured the first three draws of the second half and scored three goals from Jenna McCabe, Igoe and Lauren Fitzpatrick in the first 2:36 of the half to cut the deficit in half, 10-7. A goal for Fairfield stopped the run, but Emily Hannigan picked up a failed clear and ran the ball in for a goal for BC. The Stags Rebecca White then scored twice in three minutes to maintain Fairfield's 13-8 lead.
Boston College made its last run at that point, scoring three times in 86 seconds, with a pair of goals from Costello to bring the Eagles within three. Fairfield halted the run at 14:34 to play and began a 5-0 run of their own. Fitzpatrick struck with seven second to play on a free position for the final margin of 19-12.
Costello led the Eagles with four goals and four points, Fitzpatrick was second with three tallies and McCabe and Igoe each tallied two.
Katie Monaghan started for BC and played the first 21:57, allowing 10 goals, freshman Catherine Conway minded the net for the final 38:03, making eight saves and allowing nine goals.
BC travels north to take on Iona on Saturday March 7 in New York before opening their home schedule against Brown on March 11 at 4 p.m. in the Friends of Jaclyn benefit game.
