Chestnut Hill, Mass. - A six-run fifth inning helped Florida State spoil Boston College's first-ever ACC game at Shea Field, as the No. 3 Seminoles dropped the Eagles, 7-1.
Boston College graduate and former Red Sox manager Joe Morgan threw out the ceremonial first pitch and BC starter Nate Jeanes followed the former Eagle great to the mound firing seven strikeouts in four innings of work.
After the Noles scored one run on wild pitch in the third, Jeanes ran into further trouble in the fifth. FSU loaded the bases on back-to-back singles by Dan Diaz and Shane Robinson and a walk.
A Buster Posey single gave the Noles a 2-0 lead and was followed by five more runs, including RBI singles by Travis Anderson and Ryan McCardle.
Nick Asselin, Matt Meyer and Ryne Reynoso combined to shut Florida State down after the fifth inning, but the Eagles were not able to make much noise on offense.
Playing through a steady rain, BC scored its lone run of the day when Shawn McGill ripped a triple to right field, scoring Dave Preziosi.
The Eagles will play game two against Florida State Saturday at 1 p.m.
