No. 24 Eagles Complete Weekend Sweep with Doubleheader Victory over Duke

Birdball picks up second league sweep of the year
BRIGHTON, Mass. -Â No. 24 Boston College Baseball (31-12, 14-7 ACC)Â picked up two wins over Duke (23-19, 8-13 ACC)Â on Saturday, taking the first game 4-2 before closing out the series with a 14-6 victory to complete the weekend league sweep. The two wins brings BC's winning streak to seven games, including five in the ACC.

Jack Toomey recorded his sixth triple of the season during the second game of the day, tying the program record for most in a single season. Toomey also moves into a tie for fourth in program history in career triples with seven.

GAME 1

Brady Miller got the start on the mound for the Eagles, going 6.2 innings with eight strikeouts while only allowing two runs. Carter Hendrickson, Julio Solier, and Jack Toomey each had an RBI.

The Eagles turned a double play to end the top of the first inning before jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom half of the inning.

BC opened the scoring after taking advantage of a fielding error by the Duke third baseman, which sent Julio Solier across the plate. On the next at-bat, Carter Hendrickson hit an RBI single to left field to double the lead. Later in the inning, Jack Toomey scored on a wild pitch to push the lead to three.

The Blue Devils started chipping away at the BC lead in the fourth with a solo home run by Matthew Strand. Duke added another run in the seventh to make it a one-run game.

Boston College regained its two-run cushion in the bottom half of the inning off an RBI single by Solier to score Colin Larson from second base.

The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning when Toomey hit a sac fly to send Solier home from third. Solier had led off the inning with a triple to left center, his fifth of the season.

The Blue Devils took its first lead in the series in the next half inning when tacked on four runs to take a 4-1 lead. After getting two men on base, Kaden Smith had an RBI single to tie the game before Matthew Strand hit a three-run home run. Duke pushed its lead to 5-1 through an RBI single from Smith in the sixth inning.

Colin Larson hit his third home run of the year in the sixth, a solo shot to right field just inside the foul pole. The Eagles loaded the bases later in the inning, and Carter Hendrickson cleared them with a double down the right field line to tie the game at 5-5.

Solier put BC back in front in the seventh with an RBI single to left field to send Kyle WIlliams across the plate.

After Duke scored in the eighth to tie the game at 6-6, the Boston College offense exploded for eight runs in the bottom half in the inning. Gallo started the scoring with a two-run home run to make it an 8-6 game. Solier, Ty Mainolfi, Nick Wang, Toomey, and Hendrickson each had RBI hits, while Hendrickson also had three stolen bases in the inning, along with Wang and Mainolfi each stealing one.
