Chestnut Hill, Mass. - No. 9 Clemson collected three RBI doubles, two in the sixth inning, to help defeat Boston College 6-3 in game one of the three game series in Chestnut Hill.
The Tigers took a 4-1 lead in the sixth inning on doubles by Travis Storrer and Marquez Smith, with Smith's two-bagger to left being the eventual game winner.
After falling behind 2-0 in the fourth, BC cut the deficit in half as Jared McGuire and Dave Preziosi led the inning off with singles to center field. With two outs, Eric Campbell drilled an RBI single to left, scoring McGuire. It was Campbell's 16th two-out RBI of the season to lead the team.
When the Eagles failed to take advantage of a bases loaded situation in its half of the sixth, the Tigers responded by adding a run in the top of the seventh, making the score 5-1.
Ryne Reynoso put a charge into the Eagles in the bottom of the inning, driving a solo home run to center for his third of the season. Pete Frates then reached on an error and Johnny Ayers walked to put runners at first and second. Ryan Hutchinson advanced both runners one base on a sacrifice bunt and McGuire delivered a sac fly to center to make the lead 5-3.
The Tigers grabbed an insurance run in the eighth and closer Daniel Moskos shut the Eagles down in the final two frames for the 6-3 final.
Due to the pending inclement weather on Sunday, games two and three will be played tomorrow as part of a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
