Baseball Prepares for ACC Quarterfinals Against Miami

No. 4-seeded Boston College takes on the No. 5-seeded Hurricanes
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — No. 4-seeded Boston College Baseball is set to play No. 5-seeded Miami on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and will air live on ACC Network.

How We Got Here
The Eagles enter the ACC Tournament as the No. 4 seed after posting a 17-13 league record this season. Boston College, picked to finish 16th in the preseason coaches' poll, posted a program-best 17 ACC wins en route to earning its highest-ever seed at the ACC Tournament.

BC opened the league slate by taking two of three games on the road at then-No. 24 Miami. The next series saw the Eagles pick up a win at No. 10 NC State before sweeping Cal at home. Boston College then had back-to-back series against national Top 10 opponents in Virginia and North Carolina. The Eagles picked up the series win over the Cavaliers after winning the first two games, and carried the momentum into the series with the Tar Heels, winning the first game on the road at UNC.

The Eagles continued to pick up ACC wins after winning three-straight series, taking two of three from Virginia Tech, sweeping Duke, and winning two more games against Notre Dame. With a win in the first game of the series at Clemson, Boston College set a new program record for most ACC wins with 17.

BC is 8-9 in 17 games at the ACC Tournament. The Eagles went 2-1 in the tournament last year after advancing to the quarterfinals.

Entering the tournament as the 14-seed, Boston College defeated 11-seeded Notre Dame 5-4 in 10 innings. The Eagles followed that up by taking down sixth-seeded Virginia 12-8 in the second round, before falling to third-seeded North Carolina in the quarterfinals by a score of 7-2. A.J. Colarusso, pitching on short rest, allowed just one run on five hits over six innings of work while striking out nine batters.

Three Eagles Earn All-ACC Honors
A.J. Colarusso, Nick Wang, and Luke Gallo received All-ACC recognition following the conclusion of the regular season. Colarusso and Wang were named to the third team, while Gallo earned a spot on the All-Freshman team.

Colarusso went 4-3 in league play over 10 starts, picking up wins against No. 9 Virginia, No. 6 North Carolina, Duke, and Clemson. The senior posted a 4.97 ERA with a team-high 46 strikeouts.

Wang started all 30 league games, batting .280 while leading the team in home runs (7) and total bases (58), and sitting second in RBI with 22. Gallo also started all 30 ACC games and led the team in batting average with .350 and finished with 35 hits, 22 RBI, and 45 total bases.

Scouting the Hurricanes
Miami is 37-17 overall and comes into the game as the five seed after posting a 16-14 league record during the regular season. The Hurricanes defeated Stanford 11-2 in the second round of the ACC Tournament on Wednesday afternoon.

Derek Williams leads Miami in batting average (.385) and hits (75), while Jake Ogden is right behind with 72 hits and .316 batting average. Alex Sosa has a team-high 16 home runs and Williams is sitting right on his heels with 15.
