Charlottesville, Va. - Virginia's Mike Ballard spun a no-hitter as Boston College fell to the Cavaliers in game three of a weekend series in Charlottesville, Va.
The Eagles put two runners on in the ninth via a walk and an error, but Ballard, who walked two and struck out three, retired Shawn McGill to clinch his sixth win of the season.
BC starter Terry Doyle scattered six hits over six innings of work, but four of those hits were doubles, allowing the Cavaliers to score four runs off the right-hander.
A Tim Henry double in the third inning scored Greg Miclat and would provide the only support Ballard would need.
Patrick Wingfield doubled in the fourth to make the score 2-0, and UVA added two more in the sixth, giving the Cavaliers a 4-0 lead. David Adams singled home Sean Doolittle in the seventh for the 5-0 final.
The Eagles will face UMass in the first round of the Beanpot on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Fraser Field in Lynn, Mass.
